Celebrity Rehab, Episode 2 - Jeff Conway Rehab and his Support Team
Dr. Drew changes up the opening montage this time. He tells us that "Celebrities love to party and most of them don't know when to stop." Then he once again reminds us that we're watching Celebrity Rehab. Thanks Dr. Drew!
This installation of Celebrity Rehab opens with scenes of Kinickie Conway's trip to the ER. As the scenes in the ambulance flash, Dr. Drew tells us that since it is Day 2 that everyone is starting to show some signs of withdrawal. Dr. Drew is on the phone running down all of the drugs that Kinickie is withdrawing from and its a veritable poo poo platter of pharmaceuticals (Xanax, Norco, Oxycontin, Vicodin). In other words, things that can be found in your "Welcome to Hollywood" swag bag.
Dr. Drew is confused over whether Kinickie is suffering from a seizure, took something, or is having withdrawals. Note to Dr. Drew: If you're trying to ditch the Loveline image and become a Drug Rehabilitator, shouldn't you know these things? I'm just saying....
Back to the show. Dr Drew decides that Kinickie will complete his detox at the hospital. Kinickie is writhing and groaning on his hospital bed as Dr. Drew tells the nurses how screwed they are in dealing with this "tricky" situation and reminds them not to give him opiates. Again, he tells them how uncertain he is of what's actually wrong with Kiniickie and repeats the seizure, withdrawal, took something scenarios. He tells them their goal is to let him "sleep this off". Funny, that's what my Mummy did for me when I came home during my summers home from University with a hangover. She can have her own show! Dr. Drew leaves Kinickie at Huntington Hospital while reminding us how these are his patients and he feels responsible for him.
Back at the Pasadena Recovery Center fellow Rehabbers Almost Gov of CA Mary Carey, Almost American Idol Jessica Sierra, and Almost Successful Baldwin Daniel are talking not of their hopes for recovery, but about : KINICKIE!!!! Jessica feels sorry for him because he's "on a lot of meds".... ummm aren't all of you there because you're "on a lot of meds?"
Governor Carey still looks drunk from the day before and flops back and forth with a lit cigarette dangerously close to her heavily flammable raggedy hair extensions, and Daniel suggests that they make a card for him when he gets back. Daniel's got the right attitude, isn't there always an arts and crafts project in rehab? Governor Carey suggests breaking into storage and retrieving one of her confiscated pornos and Daniel is mortified that they confiscated her pornos. Jessica reminds them that they also confiscated her dildos as well... yes she had more than one. Daniel, our rehab lifer sighs, "what is rehab without pornos and dildos?" Daniel, that would be the difference between a real rehab and this crazy show!
Creepy nightvision flashes of our campers trying to sleep. Dr. Drew says now its time to get down to business and these people are going to be sick and ill when the party is over. He tells us that people can die from withdrawal and that it's an ugly process. After a night of sickness and no sleep Resident Tech Shelley feels it's wise to wake these folks up at 7:30 AM. One disturbing moment: AI Jessica is given the choice of whether she wants to shower or not after a night of sweating, sleeping and detoxing..... ewwwwwwwww. Maybe she'll come out of this with an endorsement for a Bath and Body line. Here's hoping.
Surreal Lifers and VH1 alums Chyna and Brigitte have a brief "The L Word" reunion in the hallway. I guess no one makes pajamas that are for extremely tall women because Brigitte's pajamas are very Urkle-like. Brigitte scurries away while Chyna mumbles something about orange juice. No one has yet taken a shower. Dr. Drew describes how treatment works, and that early morning wakeups are normal (another incentive for me not to become addicted to drugs). Breakfast, meditation, group, and one on one. No mention of a shower there either..... sigh.
At breakfast, Daniel is missing having his wife in bed spooning with him... awwwwww. Chyna and Brigitte's hair looks wet and gelled so at least two of them have showered. Phew. Crazytown Seth is looking a little ragged but still hot hot hot even after detoxing!
We go back to visit Kinickie in the hospital. Dr Drew pounds on a detoxing man who complains of chronic joint pain. Nice going Dr. Drew. The charge nurse then tattles that they found a rolled up $20 bill with cocaine in Kinickie's belongings. How did he sneak that in???? Intake was pretty invasive, he should get a spot on Mindfreak. Dr. Drew isn't surprised. He tells them not to give him any pain meds and says he took $1000 worth of Xanax. Where is he getting all of this cash??? Are Taxi reruns still on air??? Dr. Drew warns them about Kinickie’s girlfriend and to pat her down when she comes to visit because she likes to supply him with drugs. They're instructed to run urine toxicology on him everyday.
Back at Pasadena Recovery Center, it's time to go to Group Process. We hear a voice asking AI Jessica questions and it's not Dr. Drew, it's frequent Rehab visitor Daniel Baldwin. He's conducting his own group discussion in the lobby. Resident Tech Shelley benevolently smiles on this little tete a tete and politely lets Daniel finish his sessions before saying it's time to go to real group now.
Dr. Drew gives us another tutorial about what group process is as we see our rehabbers sit down in a circle. Dr. Drew introduces them to Bob Forrest and calls him his “main squeeze”. VH1 tells us that Bob has been in rehab 24 times as Dr. Drew tells us he is one of the most talented chemical dependency counselors he’s ever seen. I would hope so! There’s hope for Daniel Baldwin having a second career. Brigitte likes the way Bob looks after 24 times of rehab… I feel another installment of Strange Love coming on. Dr. Drew says that Bob was scary looking when he was using, he looked worse that Kinickie. Nice Dr. Drew, cut down your patients and your main squeeze.
Brigitte asks after Kinickie and Dr. Drew says Kinickie is sleeping off his detox and he’s been through it with him before. Was Kinickie the trial run for this show? Hmmmm. He tells them he needs watching and that the nurses found cocaine on him. What the hell happened to HIPAA?
Daniel says he’s angry that he had drugs because he put all of the other addicts at risk. Brigitte agrees. Dr. Drew wonders if they’re angry because he brought drugs in or that he got away with it and was able to take them. AI Jessica says, "yes I wish I had’ve had a blunt to smoke." Daniel sticks to his guns - he’s taking the moral high ground and he’s mad they were brought in period. Forrest Bob says he considered rehab sacred ground but he used to bring drugs to rehab because the Doctors didn’t know what they were doing. Group’s over, it's lunchtime!
It's sunny in Pasadena and its 3:00 on day two. Chyna’s in the pool in a bikini that’s too small, Daniel’s on the treadmill working off his anger at Kinickie, and Crazytown Seth is sleeping. This montage was meant to show how different people rebound from withdrawal. Crazytown Seth is having the hardest time “kicking” because of what he was on. Dr. Drew is expecting him to sleep for a couple of days. Apparently withdrawal makes his bones ache. He says his symptoms are serious but he seems ok to me. A little less hot but still hot nonetheless.
Another Dr. Drew Rehab Tutorial as Brigitte sits down for her one on one. She’s missing her kids and talks about how her youngest has been ill and none of her kids know she’s here. Dr. Drew is concerned that Brigitte’s demeanor is so cool. She says the last four years of her marriage and her son’s brain tumors led her to drink because she was not around. Dr. Drew says she needs to deal with her feelings and that not feeling good will make her drink. Her one on one is over.
It's 10:30 and Daniel is still on the treadmill. He’s going to be the fittest sober guy at the end of this season. Chyna and Brigitte are talking, and they think Daniel feels left out because he’s the only guy awake. Governor Carey and AI Jessica are having a Bevis and Butthead moment. Governor Carey is farting and AI Jessica is burping. They blame the food from rehab. Flashback to Brigitte and Chyna, they are doing a video diary. Chyna says the scariest thing about being here is that she’s confused as to why she’s here. She’s not sure why she’s there. Huh? Brigitte hopes to grow from this get sober and go on vacation with her kids.
