Big Brother House Calls, 07/07/06 – Sending Marcellas Some Needed Love
Gretchen Massey's First Solo Attempt
I wasn't quite sure what to think about watching House Calls without Marcellas. Don't get me wrong, I really like Gretchen Massey, but can she carry the show alone without Marcellas? To me he defines the show. Sometimes you need that point/counterpoint thing going on.
I tuned in to watch the first Marcellas-less House Calls episode today and found I still like the show a lot, but yes, I definitely miss Marcellas. Even Gretchen says she feels Marcellas broke their "alliance." He had said he would never do an All Stars, yet ... here he is. Gretchen shows Marcellas' video pleading for people to vote him into Big Brother All Stars. In it he's ultra-serious, so not the light-hearted version we've enjoyed on House Calls. He says he just wants to entertain us all ... but isn't.
Gretchen notes how serious he is in the video as well, and then mentions the look on his face when he found out that he wasn't voted into the house by America, but was instead placed in there by the producers. She talked to him right before he went into sequester, and then wanted to call him or text him after, but of course couldn't. She wants him to know we all still love him.
Opening up the phone line for the first time of the season, Ashley from Atlanta calls in and says he likes Marcellas and the way he interacts with people. That season was the only season he never watched, but he does know the big mistake Marcellas made. I think the Space Alien from Bugs Bunny on that space station knows the big mistake Marcellas made. Ashley hopes we eventually see more of Marcellas' normal personality that we saw on Thursday night's show, and Gretchen admits he was pretty much invisible, which is unlike him, as he likes attention, and isn't shy in front of the camera. She believes he's lying low, upset that America didn't vote him in.
Ashley did vote for who he wanted into All Stars. Number one he voted for Howie, but he also voted for Janelle and Kaysar. He wants to comment about Will having the nerve to call Kaysar the most arrogant guy to have ever played the game. Gretchen brings up Will's comments in the diary room, where he was saying he was insulted to not be nominated and thought of as a threat. Ashley thinks there should be more alpha males pitted against each other in the house, knowing it would make for great TV.
Vincent calls in and says he's sad not to see Marcellas sitting next to Gretchen. He, too, wants to talk about Marcellas' reaction to not being voted in. He believes many BB fans didn't start watching until the fourth season, and just don't know him so much as a player. Gretchen says the people in the earlier seasons of the show were at a disadvantage, as us fans have such a short attention span. Hey! That's not nice!
Now, what was I talking about? Vincent doesn't think Chicken George knows what's going on in the house. Gretchen says she's rooting for Marcellas, of course, and also for Chicken George. She's tired of these shows always saying the oldest has to go. Vincent notes that Jack survived in season four. He switches gears here, and talks about Allison getting pissed at Janelle for nominating her, but not being pissed at Jase. Everyone knew she was conniving in her season, why would she not expect to be a target? Gretchen says no one else was surprised, yet the problem is Janelle is one of those women that other women love to hate. There's a lot of jealousy over her looks, yet she's not an idiot, and works the bubbly ditzy thing.
