America's Next Top Model 9, Episode 6: Nobody Likes a Quitter

Ding dong! Who's that at the door of the ANTM house? Why, it's Tyson Beckford, looking seventeen kinds of fine. He's there to teach the girls about being a spokesperson, which basically means that they grab anything they find in the kitchen and then have to pitch it. Tyson's emphasis? Make it sexy. The way they talk about a popsicle and a mango make me slightly uncomfortable, but in a good way.

Then Ty (because we're tight like that) takes the girls to a set for the “I am African” campaign, which is for the Keep a Child Alive charity, which focuses on AIDS care. The girls break off into groups of three to come up with a PSA. Heather, Jenah and Ambreal come up with the worst concept yet they win. The founder of Carol's Daughter gives them gift baskets and then chooses Heather (at random) to star in a shoot directed by Mary J. Blige and shot by Matthew Rolston. Hold up! First of all, is there a show Mary J. won't do? I cover Dancing and she's been there. American Idol? Been there. Where will she show up next? As a team member on Amazing Race? And Matthew Rolston, who's done Angelina, is shooting one of the ANTM chicks? It's madness!

Anyway, they spray tan Heather and she looks gorg as always. The weird thing is that her autism seems to fade on will - she has no problem looking people in the eye and was hugging everyone at the shoot. Hmm.

Back at the house, the girls have a slumber party in the walk in closet and Ebony lets it slip that she wants to go home. Hold the phone! She was so gung-ho at the start and now its like the life has been sucked out of her. Must be the weave.

The photo shoot concept was so lame - the girls' outfits corresponded to various recycling themes. Ebony was lifeless while Bianca's practice paid off. Ambreal did poorly again but Heather made sure to do a full face shot.

At panel, Nigel wore Ms. Jay's earlier fro and now we know that Nigel was meant to be bald and free. Ambreal blamed her performance on an eyelash (my kingdom for glue) and Sarah claimed she hasn't lost weight when a side by side photo clearly showed a loss of at least 10 lbs.

The top girls were Saleisha and Jenah. What kills me about Jenah is that she looks awful in person, almost ugly, but in pictures it's like a completely different person. The bottom two were Ambreal and Ebony, with the judges deciding to give Ebony a second chance. And then, Ebony says she wants to go home. She misses her family and modeling isn't for her. And you can't see it because of the bangs, but you know there's a vein twitching in Tyra's forehead. Nobody says no to Tyra.

She tells Ebony that she thinks it’s more about Ebony not being able to handle criticism and that because being a quitter is unattractive, she's cutting Ebony loose. Um, what was the option? Force her to continue posing against her will? Ebony practically skips out the door while Ambreal nearly collapses with joy. Tyra tries to play it off like this is what she wanted to happen, going all deep with "it was meant to be." Yeah, like you didn't just cut her loose a minute ago. Ebony made it seem like the show was killing her but ANTM isn't exactly Survivor. If you're not there for the right reasons or want to go home, better to say it early on than take the spot of a girl who really wants it.
