America's Next Top Model 9, Episode 5: High Altitude, Higher Attitude

You know that any week where Benny Ninja shows up will involve plenty of attitude, although I find him a lot more supportive/encouraging than Ms. Jay, who's been specializing in eye-rolling lately.

We're back to posing during movement with Benny guiding the girls as they jump on a trampoline and pose. It's like gymnastics for spastics, with most the girls wiping out.

Back at the house, the girls are giddy and silly but Janet is all business, practicing her walk, while Sarah and Jenah streak through the house.

The next day, the girls go to a skating rink. Lloyd Eisler shows up for two seconds to teach them how to let a partner swing them around. The judges are the editor of Seventeen and past ANTM winner Danielle (who looks sleek and still has her gap). Benny calls out emotions that the girls have to portray while being tossed around like a beach ball. Most do fine, except for Ebony who decides that sad=pouting, Ambreal whose smile was scary big and Heather whose body refused to bend or flex. In fact, she spent a lot of time complaining about everything and I think she's feeling a little too confident, to the point where she was critiquing the other girls. The winner was Lisa, who got to shoot an advertorial for Academiks, with Danielle. She picked Janet and Ebony. While they were working out their fierce, the girls back home were very bitter. It was almost like Lisa didn't deserve to be there so how dare she win a challenge? ANTM zen of the day: Haters would do a lot better to concentrate on bettering themselves, instead of putting down others.

The photo shoot was on a hotel roof, where the girls had to pose in goth makeup as gargoyles, while perched on a platform close to the edge. Ambreal made a big deal about being scared of heights, even needing the girls to escort her up to the roof but when it came time for her challenge, she pulled it together. Sarah was clueless and Janet's practice didn't make perfect. Lisa nailed it when she stopped over-thinking, and both Bianca (who abandoned the wig for good) and Ebony were amazing.

At panel, Tyra asked Lisa about her sad mood and Lisa shared that the girls were being mean. Tyra's advice? Don't let them bring you down. On a healing role, she got Ebony to reveal that she doesn't smile because she thinks her smile is too gummy. It was like therapy, without hugs or breakthroughs.

Lisa and Bianca were called up first, which won't help the rivalry. But it was overconfident Bianca and over-practicing Janet who landed in the bottom two, with Janet going home for the dual crimes of being short and taking blah pictures. At ANTM, you have to walk the walk and talk the talk.
