America's Next Top Model, Cycle 9 - Interview With Mila

Mila
Age
: 20
Hometown: Boston, MA
Occupation: College Graduate

America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 9, set sail on the high seas immersing 13 hopefuls into a world of beauty, fashion and glamour. But unfortunately the journey ended early for Mila, the first eliminee of this reality laced, modeling competition. We recently had the pleasure of talking to her via a conference call. The following is a transcript of Mila's answers during the call, including questions from Reality Shack.

Hi Mila! How’s it going? We really appreciate talking to you.

Hi! I’m doing good thank you.

Tell us about your audition. What was it like?

I didn’t ever actually want to audition. I met one of the casting associates while I was out one night. She told me to stop by auditions which I did. I met with the main casting director and got cast. The rest is history I guess.

Had you modeled before?

Actually when I was younger, I did some modeling when I was in Boston.

What made you stand out in front of the judges?

I think as far as modeling goes, the fact that I look Eastern European. I think that’s a good look in the modeling industry.

You bounded onto the scene with a super bubbly personality. Are you always so happy?

I’ve read some of the message boards and people are like, “How can a person be that happy?” I guess a lot of people did react positively though. When my friends watched it they were like, “Oh you were so great! You’re always so positive.” I guess I’m like one of the most positive people. I don’t know.

The judges felt you weren’t grasping the things they were telling you during panel. Do you agree with that perception?

I was definitely listening to them. I was a little surprised when I heard them say that. I was definitely nodding my head and saying, “Okay I understand…” Maybe it was the expression on my face. It was maybe blank but I think the whole situation was pretty stressful and that’s the way I dealt with it. I was definitely listening to the judges’ criticisms and suggestions.

Were you taking the challenges seriously? Could this be why you were eliminated?

I think the judges thought I wasn’t taking the whole experience seriously and I wasn’t listening to them during panel and I didn’t listen to Ms J’s suggestion when we went to Old Navy. Looking back, I think I would’ve picked a different outfit.

How do you feel about Heather, especially with her disability?

On the show I think Heather’s disability seems non communicative but during her worse moments, during her most awkward moments… I think Heather was a normal person. She was difficult to get to know, but once you did get to know her, I think she was great.

Some of the girls did act a bit ugly towards Heather. What did you think about that?

I think whenever people come across a person or a condition they’ve never dealt with before that’s just what happens. I think the girls do warm up to her eventually because once you get to know her, she’s a great girl.

So, while you were in the house, who did the cooking?

Oh my God. A few of the girls were really great cooks, but a lot of people cooked. We would make diner and breakfast. It was fun.

Since things happened so quickly and you ended up being the first eliminee, did you really have enough time to “feel” the whole experience?

You know, it all did happen very fast. I had a chance to do one photo shoot and one photo challenge so it did happen very fast, but it was the judges’ opinions. They felt that I should be eliminated.

Did you gain anything from this brief experience?

A lesson that I learned was during the photo shoot. It’s definitely important to convey an emotion and not necessarily concentrate on how you look on the outside. The smoking photo shoot was very important to convey the tragedy of what happens after smoking and the emotion of glamour in the first two shots.

During the photo shoot, you really struggled with the giggles. What was that all about?

The photo shoot itself was really not funny at all, but it was because all of the girls were just hanging out and making each other laugh. Bianca and I were laughing. It wasn’t the photo shoot I was laughing at. We were just cracking jokes. The photo shoot itself was absolutely not funny it’s just that what we were doing was.

If you had the chance to do things over, what would you change?

I would probably dress differently. I would probably not wear so many dresses.

Do you have a beauty secret you can share with us?

I think it’s really important to have great skin. My face wash, I absolutely love it. It’s Neutrogena Clean and Clear. It’s the greatest thing ever. I’ve been using it since I was 16 or 17.

Do you keep up with any other reality TV shows?

I totally love the Hills on MTV.

Are there any behind the scenes, juicy details we’ve missed?

I think they did a pretty good job portraying what happened as far as drama goes. There were some funny parts though. Bianca was like running all over the house and she ran into a glass door and she left a make up mark on it. It was hilarious.

As you were packing, you said you didn’t feel ready to leave. Who do you feel should’ve been eliminated instead?

I really don’t know. I don’t think I could ever place myself in a position like the judges where I would have to decide who would go home so I don’t know.

There are still quite a few eliminations ahead. Who do you hope will win the competition?

I don’t know. I hope they all do well.

You’re currently pursuing a college degree, right?

Yeah. I’m actually a grad student studying economics.

Will you continue to pursue modeling?

I actually hope to continue modeling while I’m school because I feel I can definitely balance both a modeling career and my school work.

Would you like to say anything to your fans?

It’s a great show. Keep on watching it.

Mila thank you so much for speaking with us. We’ll keep our eyes out for you in the future. Good luck! Bye!

Thank you! Bye!
