The Biggest Loser, Sept. 18 - Weight ... or Attitude?

Jillian's Team Surprises the Others!

I'm finding it hard to see how The Biggest Loser could post yet another two hour episode and am wondering tonight if it will be mostly filler. It totally destroyed by TiVoing for the night, as I can only do two shows at once. It just makes me think of So You Think You Can Dance this season. Every week it seemed like it was a two hour episode. You can understand in the beginning with 20 finalists, but even after that, it seemed all we got is filler. I hope we're don't have a bunch of that in store for us tonight.

We start off tonight with the info we didn't get last week, how well the black team did with their weight loss. So we're filling these two hours with info from last week. From 100 miles away from The Biggest Loser campus, Jillian weighs her black team out in the middle of nowhere. Jez says it's intimidating, because that's why they're here. Isabel is first up. Starting at 298, she is now down to 290. She says it feels good and is a great beginning. Julie started at 218, and has only lost two pounds. She explains she has been trying to have another baby, and it turns out she has some disease that losing weight would benefit. With every pound she gains, it makes it that much harder for her to conceive. Hollie started at 255, and is down to 244. Jez started at 345, and is down 16 pounds. He wants to lose weight and be healthy for the first time in his life. Jim started at 361, and is now at 350. His twin Bill says he is rooting and praying for him, feeling it's a blessing to be there together. He started at 334, and is down to 313. He says they're all sticking together on the black team, and can't wait to face off against the other teams.

Kim addresses her read team after the elimination of Amber. David says it's a reality and kick in the pants that they'll need to be a tighter team and stick together. Kim wants to keep up the team mentality and spirit. Team captain Phil says they're all ready to take that next step forward. He adds he's never seen skinny, and he really wants to make it into the fire department and knows right now he can't pass their tests. Amy wants to be there for her kids. Even though it's hard to not be with them, her weight is endangering her health. Her parents have diabetes and her father died from it at 46. She doesn't want to die young and leave her kids behind. I like the fact that these people aren't just wanting to look good. They want to do this for their health and livelihood.

Bob is leading his team up the Santa Monica mountain, and wants to be the first team in The Biggest Loser history to win the first two weigh-ins. Kae says when she was in the military, everyone was trying to be the best they can be (Is she turning this into a commercial for the Army?), and being here, the feelings come back, and she wants to be the best soldier again. She's done being 225. Neil is hurting on this hike, and Bob tells him if it gets really bad, he doesn't want him to push it, and wants him to just go back. Neil said he's not going to stop, and he indeed finishes, feeling a great accomplishment. Patty says she needs to lose weight so that she can live and see her sons' college graduations, her daughter's wedding, and when they get their first real jobs. Will her daughter not go to college and her sons not get married?

Jillian is having her black team carry heavy logs on their shoulders during a run. Julie says her memory of being abandoned while the red and blue teams drove away on the bus is what is driving them as a team right now. Jillian adds that many of these people are used to not working out at all, but what they need to do now is be aggressive. When they get back to The Biggest Loser campus, she says the air-conditioned gym is going to be like a joke to them after walking 100 miles through hell carrying logs on their backs.

An interesting addition to the show is nutrition and exercise trivia during the commercial breaks. Our first is what percentage of Americans eat fast food as a family meal once a week? 10, 29, 51, or 70%. Guilty as charged every Friday night, so I know it has to be either 51 or 70. The answers is 51%.

Kim finds Bryan in the kitchen, and is having a hard time with his diet. She wants to know why she spent all this time teaching them nutrition when he's eating string cheese and Jell-O for a meal. He's allergic to fish, and they're trying to stay away from beef, yet they need the protein. Together they make turkey tacos, and the recipe can be found on nbc.com. Substituting turkey for beef will save you 350 calories a week or five pounds in one year, with 26 grams of protein in each serving. Even Bryan likes it. Next, let's get Mickey to try it.

Next up is a pre-challenge workout for Kim's red team, and she tells them the thing that is going to get them through this and every challenge is wanting it bad enough, having mind over matter. She tells Amy she has to stand up when she's on the treadmill, but Amy says she's afraid of falling off. Amy complains and asks how much longer it will be, as it "f'ing hurts." Kim says fine, let it "f'ing hurt." Ooh, Kim's getting tough. Wait till she finds out the woman she replaced is coming back.

Speaking of Jillian, she's having her team kicking bags and nearly doing ground grappling. Julie is tired of being the sweet and nice one, and says it's nice to be the rebel, to be able to come back and say they should have thought about this before they didn't choose her. Jez says that being here as a castoff is making them stronger, as it led to more time to grow as a team and individuals. They didn't have challenges or temptations for two weeks. Jillian leads them across the sand in deep lunges, and Hollie drops to the ground. Jillian challenges her and gets her up and going again. She knows Jillian doesn't think she's ready, but she thinks she is.

Bob is doing his pre-challenge pep talk with his team, and says all he knows is it's going to involve stairs. He explains Jerry picked his team for a reason. He wanted strong people to win. Bob says if they get the Mt. Everest of stairs, they just have to say "Bring it on" and get a win for the blue team.
