Scott Baio Is 45 and Single, Episode 4 – Who's Your Daddy?

Scott begins week 5 by asking Doc Ali's permission to get together with Renee so that he can meet her 17 year old daughter who is in town from Tennessee. Of course this luckily coincides with this week's subject, kids. Doc Ali asks Scott if he thinks he would be a good father. Scott says of course he would, because he's a good dog owner, which is the same thing. Scott, just when you have me in your corner you have to remind us how much of a guy you really are ... Anyway, Doc Ali agrees that meeting Renee's daughter is very important, and allows Scott to do so, after he completes two other tasks. The first, meet up with an old girlfriend named Sheila, who is a mother, to talk about parenthood and what it means. The next is to spend a day working in a daycare.

It takes some effort, but Scott is finally able to track down Sheila, who reluctantly agrees to see him, but only if he meets her at her gym. Scott arrives at the gym (where he is not allowed in) and waits for Sheila. He waits, and waits, and waits ... until she finally comes out, announcing she only has about 5 minutes. Scott quickly explains the situation and Sheila snaps. She tells Scott that he'll never get married, and in response to the possibility of Scott having kids, says, "Are you freakin' kiddin me?" She blasts Scott for showing up one day on the set of Charles in Charge while they were supposed to have been dating, with Pam Anderson, ending the relationship. Sheila says all this while getting into her car, and finally tells Scott she has to go. When Scott tells her it was nice seeing her, she simply rolls her eyes and drives away. Scott seems pretty down about the meeting, but at least perks up when he admits that she at least still has a nice rack. That's our Scott! Always looking at the bright side!

The next day Scott arrives at a local daycare to spend the day with some kids and get a feel for what it would be like to be a dad. As you would expect, the kids keep Scott busy, going from circle time, arts & crafts, clean-up, to of course nap time. As awkward as Scott seems, he really seemed natural with the kids. It was kind of different to see Scott Baio in a group of people who didn't have a clue or care as to who he was. I bet it was refreshing for him too. The day leaves Scott wondering how people have kids. He figures there must be something to it if people keep having them.

Since Scott was set to meet Renee's daughter the next day, he decides he needs to have a gift for her. So, Scott, Johnny B, And Jason, all head over to Costco to do a little shopping. This got me a little confused right off the bat. Why Costco to shop for a 17 year old girl? It's been a few years since I've been to LA, but last I checked they had a Target. I think they may even have more than one. Plus, who exactly was the Costco member? Scott, Johnny B, or Jason? Or, maybe one of the folks at VH1, who just wanted an excuse to stop at Costco so he wouldn't have to go later? To top it off, if my future stepdad was a television and pop culture icon, making some extra money doing a reality show about whether he wants to marry my mom or not, I would expect him to shop somewhere a little more ... swanky. That being said, Scott has a major epiphany while helping out an old lady who couldn't reach a toaster oven. She admitted to being single with 14 cats, and that she had gotten divorced after her husband cheated on her with a neighbor. Johnny looks at Scott and says "Once a cheater always a cheater." I wish Scott would leave Johnny at home once in awhile. Scott realizes if he goes on catting around until he's old & grey, old cat ladies who shop at Costco in their pajamas will be the only women left for him to choose from. In a weird twist, Scott chooses to purchase a toaster oven and some candles for Renee's daughter. I'm not sure how she'll react, but so far I'm not impressed.

Scott heads over to Renee's to meet the daughter. The realization that Renee is already someone's mom, and that if he marries her he'll be someones stepdad, mixed with the fact that Renee's daughter is not some little girl, but a 17 year old woman, seems to hit Scott like a ton of bricks. The strange confusion continues as Renee opens the toaster oven Scott got for her. So Scott does what any man would do to win over a future step daughter, grabs his credit card and takes her shopping! The entire shopping trip is basically the daughter grilling Scott about his past history and his relationship with Renee. Has he cheated, does he love her, would he marry her, etc. Obviously, no one explained why there was a camera crew shopping with them...

Another awkward moment unfolds as a young man picking up on Renee's daughter recognizes Scott. When Scott steps in between the two, the guy offers to teach Scott a few pointers. Again, no one has explained the presence of the camera crew. Scott says he'll allow the guy to get Renee's number if he hangs with Scott while she tries on clothes. The guy agrees. On the way home, Scott finds out that she did indeed give the guy her number, and has been in love before, but it didn't work out. She also tells Scott she has to grow and be comfortable with who she is before she can grow and be comfortable with someone else. This pearl of wisdom causes Scott to ponder that if he marries Renee, it would be like having Doc Ali as a stepdaughter. Which all in all, might not be such a bad thing.

In the end Scott wins over Renee's daughter and gets one step closer to marriage and fatherhood. Or so we think; we'll have to see what whacky craziness ensues next week ...
