Welcome to the Doll House - Pussycat Dolls: The Search for the Next Doll, Episode 2

Last time on the Pussycat Dolls, Robin Antin searched the US for skanky girls to become the next Pussycat Doll. The girls and Robin talked ‘bout how PCD represent female empowerment. (We’re sure poor Betty Friedan is turning over in her grave. Stripper shoes, tight dresses and massive amounts of makeup and hair are exactly what she and other feminists fought for, right?)

Anyway, somewhere along the line, someone comes down with the flu. Then the kitties stop dropping like flies. There’s vomit everywhere and the powers that be at the CW Network decide to show us every bit of chunky goodness. Yech!

In the end, we get our finalists and bid a tearful adieu to girls who weren’t quite ho enough to make the final cut.

In this episode, the finalists – Sisely, Anastacia, Jaime, Chelsea, Brittany, Melissa S., Melissa R., Mariela and Asia are shown their new digs by Robin Antin, the creator of and ‘visionary’ behind the Pussycat Dolls. (Note: I didn’t describe her that way, just saying) There are pics of the Pussycat Dolls all over the place. Robin announces to the girls, “This is who you aspire to be!”

I turn to my daughter and tell her, “Oh hell to the no! You aspire to be something else. Go back and read Hop on Pop. Then, work on your Chinese alphabet.” She’s only four and I determine never, ever to buy her skank-clothes. I’m also reconsidering allowing her to wear makeup. Perhaps, she can when she’s 30!

Robin says they’re at the PCD boot camp, but the boots are stilettos and pleather. Asia says she misses her baby and calls her mama wondering if she’s doing the right thing being away from her 18-month old she had when she was only 17.

Moving along, Jessica Sutter, one of the Pussycat Dolls who isn’t Nicole Scherzinger, the lead singer, introduces herself to the gals and talks to them about confidence and how they need to be strong and confident women to be Pussycat Dolls.

Yup! It’s ALL about the confidence…and not the barely-there clothing, the gyrating and the moaning musical notes.

Hmmm! Hmmm!

The girls will now split into three groups of three and work on some singing/dancing routines. The “Crazy In Love” (Beyonce) group includes Melissa S., Asia (a Knicks dancer) and Chelsea, who used to weigh 192 lbs and had no friends. She was soooooooo overweight that no one liked her.

After watching her in action, I don’t think that had much to do with her weight. She’s a bit of a b*tch. That was probably more the problem.

Next up is the “Pon de Reply” – it’s a Rihanna song. Very popular, but I didn’t know it by its title either. Sisely, who left a punk band to audition for PCD, Anastacia and Melissa R. Melissa R. looks like a baby Nicole so I’m sure she’s a shoo-in to make it far in the competition.

Finally, we’ve got the “One-Two Step” gals. This Ciara song will be done by Brittany, Mariela and Jaime. Jaime is having a hard time with her voice. She is not confident and is afraid she’ll lose her voice because she was just sick. (Vomit alert, I cry, but no, the CW does not revisit the upchuckery…and I find I’m a bit disappointed.)

The girls practice. Mikey, Robin’s co-choreographer, really gives it to Chelsea because she’s not a dancer. Then, Chelsea’s other groupmates, Melissa S. and Asia practice in the loft without her. Oh no! They’re being really, um…

CATTY.

Chelsea is all mad, but vows revenge. She learned the routine on her own.

Mariela and Jaime are bonding. Mariela’s helping Jaime with her confidence as is the vocal coach Eric Dawson. Perhaps, the girl needs therapy too. She’s really low on the self-esteem tip.

Now, Brittany isn’t. Mikey tells her to tone it down. She’s too ho. Now, that’s surprising to me, because I didn’t realize there was such a thing in PCD’s world. He says Britt is “too Stripperella.” Haha! Then, I see it. She does look like she should be wearing plastic, not leather, boots. This is the difference.

Later on, the gals go out to dinner with Robin and Mikey at Basque. They see some ladies in a window, doing sexy dance moves. It’s a challenge. Robin then tells the girls they’re going in threes. In the end, Asia won the challenge, much to Jaime’s chagrin. She wanted to win. Asia has immunity and is thrilled by it.

The other girls don’t seem too upset. They’re too busy working on their routines. The next day they perform at the Pussycat Dolls Lounge on the Sunset Strip for a live audience and the judges.

The judges are: Robin Antin, Ron Fair – the chair of Geffen Records and ‘Lil Kim, a female rapper who says “I was born a Pussycat Doll” as if this were something to take pride in.

Oh well!

The girls perform. The first act was “Crazy in Love” and it was way off. Melissa S. even forgot the words. On “Pon de Replay”, Sisely showed singing chops, but proved she ain’t a dancer. Finally, Brittany tried to ad-lip on “One-Two Step” and fell flat.

In the end, Brittany was sent packing because she was too sexy for PCD. Wha-wha-what?

I’m really going to need a week to ponder this one! In the meantime, if you’ve got questions for me, email me at panndyra@yahoo.com or check out my reality tv gossip blog at www.teamrt.com.
