Change of Heart - Celebrity Fit Club 4, Episode 6

I am sure, Dear Reader, you have been on the edge of your seat for the past week, unable to eat, sleep or read anything else, awaiting my report on whether or not Angie Stone has left Celebrity Fit Club. So I won’t keep you in suspense: she has not.

But while I am all about being prompt, for Ms. Stone, it’s not necessarily so. At the last weigh-in, she reluctantly agreed to meet with Harvey to work out every day until the next weigh-in. Nevertheless, she keeps Harvey waiting for an hour and twenty minutes before showing up for their first day. Not the best way to keep grumpy Harvey from ripping you a new one, but Angie is surprisingly dedicated and hard-working through this first workout and Harvey is mollified.

She maintains her new spirit the rest of the week, and impresses Harvey as she continues to show up and throw herself into the workout. In order for a weight loss regime to work, it takes a mental shift, a real commitment to change. During the prior weeks, Angie seemed more dedicated to her old habits than to facing the challenge of making a major lifestyle overhaul. But this week, it appears something clicked and she presents herself as someone willing to go the distance.

Her attitude adjustment is in full effect as we return to the Castle of Reckoning and ANT sends her to scales first. She apologizes to the group for her behavior, and does so without much qualification or defensiveness. Kudos for her for being mature enough to admit her weakness. Unfortunately, her new attitude has yet to be reflected in her weight loss, as she in fact gains a pound this week. She has lost two dress sizes, though, and it’s to be hoped that she will be able to continue her hard work to see it pays off at the next weigh-in. Her goal for that session will be four lbs.

Next, we see this episode’s Fit Camp. It’s a cowboy-themed event, and the first challenge is (hold your breath) a stable cleaning. The teams have to shovel manure into sacks, and run the sacks over to a scale. Each team will have to move 300 lbs. before they can move on to the next event. Carnie Wilson balks, but does participate. The real surprise of the event is the gusto with which Angie pitches in. This is when I start to think her transformation is sincere: it’s one thing to put on a good face on the scale, or even in a gym. But to hunker down in a pile of manure and hustle for the good of the team? That’s real dedication.

Her team, Hot Buttered Soul (Angie, Ted Lange, Tina Yothers and Vinnie Pastore), has the best time for the event, with a 12 second lead over the Fat Crushers (Carnie, BoneCrusher, Erika Eleniak and Nick Turturro). The next event is a mud crawl, and although there is a bit of drama when Nick claims that Ted’s crawl was less than regulation, his kvetching was rather pointless since the Fat Crushers won that event with enough time to spare to put them in the lead for the day.

Back at the Castle, it’s Tina’s turn to weigh in. ANT informs her that she is in the lead for biggest percentage of body weight lost, but that Erika is close on her heels. She weighs in and AGAIN, she has success! Her goal was two lbs., but she lost three, bringing her to 163 lbs. She is down to the same size she was when she was sixteen and can fit into her wedding dress again. She has lost 16.5% of her body weight. Apparently, there is a prize of a hybrid car for the person who loses the most, percentage-wise, which I didn’t realize/previously report on. My bad, Readers! Her goal for next weigh-in is four lbs.

(Oh, also, while I’m trying to be a thorough recapper, just wanted to remind y’all that this episode’s losses and targets are smaller because there was only one week between tapings this time. Usually there are two weeks between tapings. In case you were curious.)

Next up is BoneCrusher. He’s also lost enough weight to fit into something he hasn’t been in for years: a roller coaster. It’s been 13 years since he could ride a coaster, but now he is finally able to get into the car, and between tapings, he took a ride with his wife and kids for the first time. He loses five lbs., which brings him down to 381. He’s lost 43 lbs. overall, surpassing Phil Margera’s previous record of 41. He says he values his health now, and so all hope he’ll keep up the good work when the show is over.

Nick Turturro now steps up to the scale. He weighs in at 160 lbs. – same as last week. He cops to not sticking to the diet. He had some pizza… and a Big Mac… and some macaroni and cheese… the list grows the longer he is on the scale. But he also went four rounds at the boxing gym, so at least he’s got the exercise thing to balance out the bad food choices.

It is now Erika Eleniak’s turn to weigh in and damn, she’s skinny! Like all of a sudden. She lost two lbs. this week to bring her down from 132 to 130, and it’s not that she was that large to begin with, but those were apparently some magic lbs. that guard the Threshold to Skinny. Now she just looks back to how she always did. She says she’s inspired by Angie’s turnaround. This past week she worked out hard with an Ultimate Fighting Champion, but whatever, she’s skinny. Good for her, but the whole Heroic Battle part for me with her is over.

One of the promos for CFC has a picture of Erika Eleniak next to the words “I was teased [for being fat.]” I know she has worked hard to lose the weight she gained from having the baby, and in no way am I trying to detract from that. But come ON. She was on BAYWATCH. At what point was she teased for being fat? In the ten minutes that elapsed between her having the baby and successfully taking the weight off? Again, good on her for losing it, but we don’t need to invent some Carnie Wilson-esque weight loss sob story for her. Again: Baywatch. She has a target of four lbs. for next week.

Next up is Ted Lange. He’s also skinny! He’s already exceeded his goal, as he weighs in this week at 164 lbs., and his target for the show was 165 lbs. Now he just wants to tone and firm up what he has, so Harvey will help him work that out. He’s happy he no longer has to “dress defensively,” a brilliant phrase for a fashion stratagem anyone who has ever been overweight will no doubt identify with.

Unfortunately, we end the weigh-ins on some downers. Vinnie gains a pound, saying he’s eating at night. When asked what he’s going to do after the show, he says, “Probably become a fat bastard again.” He tries to play it off as a joke, but one gets the sense his attention for the process might be slipping.

Carnie also doesn’t have a great weigh-in, although I feel conflicted about this. She loses one lb., so she doesn’t make her target. By her demeanor with the panel, I get the sense that she is not being totally honest with them about how well she is sticking to the program. That said… she lost a pound! She is someone who has struggled with her weight her whole life, and so to me, any progress is good progress. And Dr. Papadopoulos points that out as well, but you can tell that missing her goal is frustrating Carnie. Her target is four lbs. for the next weigh-in.

Out to the giant scales. On the way there, we are treated to a snippet of dialog between Bone and Vinnie about the diet and its effect on their bathroom habits. I will spare you, Delicate Reader, what I was not.

Once again, the Fat Crushers are in the lead. They lost eight lbs. to Hot Buttered Soul’s four. So the Crushers are now in a fourteen lbs. lead over the Buttered. Maybe a name change to like “Warm Wilted Lettuce Soul” or “Hot Water with Lemon Soul” or some other lo-cal moniker might jump start their mojo for next weigh-in. Just a thought.

See you next week! And see me over with some other skinny girls at the ANTM premiere on Wednesday!
