Launch My Line, Finale -Who Will Launch Their Line?
Last week, we saw the beginning of the end of Launch My Line. Ater congratulating the finalists Eric, Kathy, and Merle on making it so far, the Caten brothers issued their last challenge: Make three looks in two days. The first look had to incorporate "non-traditional" pockets, the second had to use ruffles, and the third had to be an evening gown. Also, the designers were expected to show all ten of their pieces at the final show, so the twins suggested (strongly) that they alter their weaker looks.
To help them in this massive endeavor, the twins had recruited six of the experts that had been paired with losing professionals. Jim and Roberto jumped at the chance to work with Kathy, while Coco and Tressa both chose Merle, leaving Julie and Susan to work with Erik. Merle's team proved to be a well-oiled machine, but the other two teams struggled.
It is now is the last day. The designers have only a few hours left to complete their work before the show starts. So they come in and immediately get to work. As they do so, we learn the status of each team. Team Eric has finished their pocket dress, but not the other two dresses. Team Kathy has not finished any of their dresses. To add to their woes, Jim hasn't arrived yet, and Kathy is understandably distraught, as this isn't a good time for somebody to be late or absent. Team Merle has finished their pocket dress and evening gown and is now working on the ruffle dress.
The twins come in and they've brought a friend they want everybody to meet: Fergie, who sings in the Black-Eyed Peas. She stops by Eric's station first and it seems they already know each other slightly thanks to their connections in the music industry. She also visits Kathy and Merle and has encouraging words for everybody.
After Fergie leaves, Eric DR's about how he has learned how to use a sewing machine and how to attach sequins to a garment. Roberto tries to reassure Kathy, who is upset because Jim still hasn't shown up and it's now 10:00.
Five hours before the final launch, the models arrive for their fitting. Not only do they get dressed (or sewn into their clothes), but they're also instructed as to their order in the show. Five hours may sound excessive, but there are thirty of them here, as each team is showing their whole collection. Said collections include not just the three new pieces, but also the signature look, the beach outfit, the animal-inspired one-piece, the asymetrical evening look, the "wild card" piece, the "distressed" look, and the three-piece outfit.
Kathy, who had really wanted the ruffled dress to be very long, realizes that it won't work and tells Emil to shorten the ruffle dress. She tells us she thought it looked too "Gypsy Rose, " and her line is called "Native Rose."
Merle notes that Jim is absent and wonders what's up. While the rest of her team puts the finishing touches on their dresses, she takes charge of her team's shoes to make sure that every model has a pair that fits and that goes with her outfit.
Jim finally shows up, apologizing for his tardiness. It seems he had car trouble. He immediately gets to work on the pocket dress. Kathy is still nervous, especially when she sees that Jim might not finish sewing the hem of the pocket dress in time.
Two hours before the show, the models go to hair and make-up. Their hair will be done by Federic Fekkai. Thai is still sewing the ruffle dress.
