Dancing With the Stars 9.6: Results – A Clear Choice At Bottom 3

There were no great surprises with the Dancing With the Stars Results show. The ones we thought would be in the bottom were. Of course, the judges were a little surprised to see Aaron Carter and Karina Smirnoff in the bottom. But for whatever reason, we don't connect with him, so him being in the bottom three, despite scoring a judges' 29 points, was a huge red flag.

Dr. Dance is chiming in here about Aaron as well, while he was "pepped up on Red Bull," and was fast and furious, what he gave up in exchange was technique. She didn't feel he lifted his legs high enough for the flick kicks. She disliked some of the dances so much this week she began to wonder if someone slipped her some of "Uncle Lenny's Grumpy Pills." Those of us without dance training obviously didn't see any lack of technique, but the bottom line is he's not entertaining to us. And if that's the case, he's never going to be walking home with the disco ball trophy.

It was pretty much a done deal that Michael Irvin would end up in the bottom three last night. He's been there so often, and while Dr. Dance found him looking fine on the dance floor and "more comfortable than I have ever seen him, except for his danceoff," perhaps it was a little too late for him. The football players usually do well on the show, but I think we all began to run out of patience with Michael, and quite frankly, not only was he too little too late, but he still wasn't up to par with Donny Osmond, Mya, and Joanna Krupa, the higher echelon of dancers here.

This brings us to Mark Decascos. I'll admit to my bias for him, and that's partly because of the martial arts connection, but also his personality that seeemed so fun and was a great match for Lacey Schwimmer. He was done in this week by Lacey's illness. Not only did it force him to dance with two separate pros, one of which was a man, but it also deprived him of the choreographer that knows what to have him do and not do. Anna Trebunskaya was putting new material into his dance as of this Saturday. Surely it was to make it more comfortable for her, but it didn't help him at all.

Dr. Dance also saw his dance differently than I did, and I suspect she saw it the same way much of the public did. He did another jumping, spinning move that to Dr. Dance seemed like a roundabout that had his legs falling at the beginning. She also thinks he's done that move way too often. What he was really doing was a type of jumping, spinning kick without letting his legs out. In martial arts you have to keep your legs bent towards you before the kick, but in dance they should be straight. He did a move that combined both of those, yet didn't kick, which made it seem weird. I think Lacey stops him from doing such things, but in 48 hours Anna couldn't or didn't police that.

It's easy to see how these three ended up in the bottom, and there just weren't any chances left for Michael as he was taken out without a chance of a danceoff. This left Mark and Aaron in a danceoff. Both did equally well. They didn't miss a step and looked strong. It seems, though, that the judges may have made the wrong choice in saving someone. They seem to be only thinking of what they want as judges.

It's clear to everyone else that if Aaron and Karina received one point less than perfect, yet fell to the bottom three, that we dont like his dancing. In addition, although this is a dance that's been planeed for a few weeks should he fall to the bottom three, it was the same dance style he did the night before, the jive. It definitely had a been there/done that feel to it. I would have rather seen Mark saved, despite my bias, as I feel he had a better shot at possibly staying next week, than Aaron who was in the bottom three with a 29.
