The Two Coreys, Season 2, Episodes 3 & 4 - How Not To Say You're Sorry
We start the week back in therapy, where Haim confesses that he knows that his past drug use is the reason why he can't book any gigs. He loves acting, but knows that he ruined his reputation and he wants to get it back. Haim decides the first step in getting his career back in order is to hire a personal assistant.
Back at casa Feldman, we see that Feldman has decided it's time to hire a personal assistant as well. Haim's search leads him to a quite capable lady named Nell. Feldman's leads him to an obsessed fan named Jake, who has no experience and whose only goal in life is to worship Feld-dog. That's right, Jake calls him Feld-dog. I was available, but heard nothing from either Corey. It's upsetting because I fulfill both requirements. I'm quite capable and obsessed. But I digress.
Back in therapy, Haim continues the pity party by admitting that he blackballed himself. He really does want to be a good man, and he's afraid that there might not be any more doors open to him in Hollywood (Haim, I'm not sure this show is going to actually open any for you, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for you). The therapist asks the Coreys what it was that made them friends. What do they like to do together? Both guys answer, bowling. All this time, and bowling was at the basis of this friendship? I didn't see that coming.
Back at the pad (Haim's apartment) Haim has Nell get Feldman on the phone so that they can plan the bowling date. Feldman is surprised that Haim has an assistant, while Susie makes the very correct observation, "Shouldn't you be working before you get an assistant?" Touché, Mrs. Feldman, touché.
The Coreys hook up that night at the bowling alley and have a pleasant time "not being competitive." Ahem. They run into a couple fans, who ask which one is which. Makes you wonder if it wasn't actually the camera crew that tipped the other patrons off. Outside they say their goodbyes. But before either of them can make a clean getaway, Feldman mentions that he'll see him in a few days on The Lost Boys set. Haim says, "maybe."
Feldman starts getting anxious and asking Haim questions. The whole point of all of this was because Haim was jumping into Lost Boys. Haim says he's just confused about being back in LA. That's funny, I'm starting to get confused about him being back in LA too. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Haim wants to work. Isn't working on Lost Boys II, you know, working? I'm just saying.
The following day Nell has arranged for Haim to meet with a casting director about a couple of projects. He sees it as an opportunity and we see that Nell is picking up the slack for the rest of us, and actually doing something to get Haim some work. She proves herself to be a competent and caring assistant. Feld-dog on the other hand is getting a different type of assistant as Jake starts his first day at casa Feldman.
If I may take a moment to give the reason's why Jake Is Crazy:
1. He looks like Pauly Shore. That would be ok if he was actually Pauly Shore... 2. He's wearing a License To Drive T-shirt 3. The first thing he says when he comes in and sees some older pictures of Feldman, "You should totally get that mullet back." 4. He sits on the toilet just so he can put his butt where Feldman's butt has been. Yes he took his pants down to do it. 5. Hanging with the Coreys is his lifelong dream
Feldman and Scott go to a pitch meeting where they are pitching a new celebreality show, Celebrity Road Trip (make note: I'll probably end up doing recaps for it next year). I like the pitch and so does the lady from the network. Feldman clarifies that he won't be talent, just producing (I guess it would be a step down from Surreal Life). The meeting is going good until she asks if Haim is going to be a part of the project. She suggests that they could recreate the scene at the DMV from License To Drive. Feldman & Scott exchange annoyed glances.
On the other side of town Haim is having a positive meeting with Nell's friend, the casting director, and is offered a job doing a voice for an animated film. Showing that he truly does want to work, Haim says yes. The new job is a huge step, but the therapist says that he's going to need to do more if he wants to rebuild a life in Hollywood. Do more, as in make some amends to all the people he hurt.
In true Hollywood fashion Haim goes home and has Nell make a list of all the people that he needs to apologize to. The lists starts off like this, "Todd Bridges, Alyssa Milano, Nicole Eggert..." The fact that they did not list the reasons why they were at the top of the list is killing me (I must know what Haim did to Todd Bridges. I MUST!). He then goes on to include every girlfriend, everyone he's ever worked with, the Feldmans, every member of his family, his parents (telling Nell to make a note that his dad owes him an apology too) etc etc. In fact, I can't be sure but, I think I even heard my name on the list, having something to do with apologizing for Dream A Little Dream II. As Nell develops carpel tunnel from writing out Haim's list, Haim comes up with a much easier way to make amends to everybody: take out an add in Variety.
This is wrong on so many levels. The fact that Nell did not stop him almost makes her worse than Feldman's assistant, Jake the toilet sitter. The headline on the add reads "This is Not A Stunt". I'm weak from snarkiness, please insert your own joke here.
Ok, better now. The morning that the add runs Scott & the Feldmans get a good laugh. They poke fun at it, and call it a publicity stunt. Again, touché Feldmans, touché. Back at the pad, Haim is all smiles because of the ad and decides to have Nell call Feldman and Susie and invite them over for dinner so that he can apologize in person for the past. Nell says no, that Haim should make the call himself. Haim does, and of course the invitation is accepted by Susie.
Susie and Feldman make a little fun of the invite after Susie hangs up, but Scott points out that it must have been a very tough call for Haim to make (that's why he tried to get Nell to do it) and they should ease up a little, which they do.
At the pad Nell and Corey begin checking out the comments that have been popping up online in regards to the add in Variety. After reading a few positive ones, they read the rest. Which are, well not so positive. Haim gets upset and asks why they're saying so many means things about him. Not to be rude Haim, but I think it's because you put an ad out in Vriety...
Susie, Feldman, and Haim are all nervous about dinner at Haim's. As you could have guessed, it all goes well. Apologies fly and group hugs ensue. All is well in the world of the Coreys. Well, until next week...
