Can the Kids Get the Job Done? - Sports Kids Moms and Dads, Episode Five by Kristy Lussier
The show opens with Sharon and Sarah driving to cheer practice at 6:45 in the morning. Sarah says she’s sick and just wants to go to bed. Sharon pretty much ignores her comments, and tells her “You have to do it.” Miss Nicole, her coach, says she’s worried Sarah is under a lot of pressure and may get burned out. Sarah has an individual competition and meets her match, and rival. She finds out she is competing against last years National Jazz champion, and her and Sharon both begin to stress. But, it’s a good stress in the end; Sarah performs wonderfully and she ends up winning 1st Place, while her rival takes 3rd. Sharon then tells the camera, with a crazed look in her eye, that the 1st place trophy will go in the corner on the shelf, because she won’t let this get to Sarah’s head, and that Sarah has another year of hard practice to look forward to. What a way to celebrate a victory.
Craig and Trenton’s first clip is Craig telling Trenton about a letter he is writing to one of the coaches at the University of Michigan. He wants this coach to keep his eye out for Trenton, the up and coming football star, and that Trenton will be seeking a football scholarship to the school. Trenton is 8, remember folks?? Shouldn’t he worry about High School first? Later, Trenton has a pretty serious game to focus on, a game against a pretty tough rival. This one is make or break, Craig reminds us. Because if they lose, they are out of the playoffs. Remember that movie “Little Giants”? It was funny to me because I didn’t think it could be that realistic until I saw Craig on the sidelines like Ed O’Neil’s character Coach O’Shea. I think Craig would even sell his daughter, who was driving him crazy during the game by talking, just so Trenton could play more football. Anyway, The Bears win, because Trenton makes a difficult tackle during the last ten seconds of play. Great job kid, have a cookie. Or two. You deserve a treat.
Kim and Bryce are packing and getting ready for Junior Nationals. They arrive excited and nervous. Bryce first needs to prepare for the qualifying round, because he has to qualify before he actually competes in nationals. Bryce tries to do a run through and falls on every jump. They think it’s because he’s never practiced the whole routine without stopping. During his rehearsal, he stops midway and feels like giving up. Later, the big moment arrives, and Bryce goes at on the ice at last. Kim is so nervous, she leaves the rink and walks around outside, just listening to Bryce’s music. Unfortunately, Bryce has trouble and falls on two jumps, including his first double axle. Now, he doesn’t know if he’ll even qualify to compete.
Karli finds out that a buyer for her horse backed out, so they still technically own him. Her and her sister spend their Sunday’s working at the barn to pay for the horse's boarding costs. Karli's mother, Karen, says she thinks her daughter is like Paris Hilton because Karli feels she’s “entitled” to things. Karen, Paris Hilton has never worked an honest day in her life. She doesn’t even know how to spell work. Your daughter works 3 jobs, goes to school and watches her little brothers while you’re at work, AND she, too, is dealing with a divorce in her family. Karli is entitled to something, and it’s called a break. Karen later does a turn around and surprises the girls by telling them she has arranged for both of them to fly to Florida and compete in the major horse competition they’ve been dreaming of. It seems there’s a declaration of Peace in this mother/daughter war. For now.
TJ puts the big foot down. Lindsay is falling behind in her school work so she’s not allowed to play or practice, as well as no phone, tv, and radio. TJ seems stressed because she’s torn between wanting the best player for her team, and wanting Lindsay to learn her lesson. TJ, please don’t change. Out of all, or most, of the parents you seem the most concerned for your daughter's future, education, and well being. Every other parent seems like they are living out their own dreams through their children. Later, Lindsay plays, finally, and they lose pretty badly. TJ is very steamed and tells the girls they get no day off, and practice is the only thing they’ll be doing from now on.
Next: Will Bryce qualify for the next round?? And can Lindsay really step up and take charge?
