Celebrities in Recovery - The Surreal Life 6, Episode 1

by Tracy Rose As the new cast members are in Hollywood to stay at the Surreal Life Hotel, there seems to be a common theme. Most of them are in recovery. The initial 6 cast members arrive: Sherman Hemsley, best known as George Jefferson from “The Jeffersons” CC Deville, guitarist from the 80’s band, Poison Tawny Kitaen, best known for her spot in a Whitesnake video Steve Harwell, lead singer of Smashmouth Andrea Lowell, Playboy bunny and self described exhibitionist Alexis Arquette, a transgender actor/actress CC and Steve seem to connect right away because they are both in recovery and they choose to room together. They decide to let the girls room together. The only problem is one of them isn’t quite a girl yet! Alexis is the last to arrive and stunned faces and pure shock greet her. CC breaks the ice with her because he once worked with her on a show. Their chatting eases the uncomfortable silence that the rest of the members share. The cast members get riled up when they are told that a therapist will be their special guest. That therapist is none other than Florence Henderson, popular TV mom, Carol Brady. She is a hypnotherapist and will be at the house daily to interact with the other houseguests. Florence is a long-time friend of Sherman’s, but she is surprised by how he is hiding in the shadows here in the hotel. Clearly, he is out of his element and it is probably a good thing he arrived first and was able to choose the only room with a single bed. Tawny stirs up a little trouble by talking to Florence about the Playboy issue. She claims she was asked many times to pose for them as well and refused because of the message it would have sent to her kids. She doesn’t respect Andrea’s choice. Florence confronts Andrea on numerous occasions about her choice to be photographed nude. Andrea is annoyed by her and thinks she is a big girl who can make her own decisions. Alexis keeps things interesting by offering the playboy bunny one last chance to experience him before he becomes 100% female. Andrea is stunned and doesn’t quite know what to say. She just confirms that she is purely heterosexual. But the excitement continues. They still need to choose their final roommate. Florence hosts a beefcake competition where she tests 5 reality TV stars and the houseguests vote on them. This group includes Scott Long from BB5 and John Paylok from Survivor: Vanuatu. In the final round, only the girls vote and they choose Maven, a good-looking guy with a body-builder’s frame, from the show Tough Enough. They think he seems to be more down to earth. He comes across as a “humble hunk.” But it doesn’t take long for a bond to form between Andrea and Maven. They share a drink and hang out together. There is only one obstacle in Andrea’s way and that is Alexis, who is also coming on strong. The house seems to have a division. There are the recoveries that head to bed early and the party animals that drink and stay up late in the hot tub.
