Big Brother 6 - House Calls, September 15th – Catching Up With Drewby LauraBelle
RealPlayer is ticking me off. My live feeds are frozen while I get sound some of the time, and yesterday I had no picture while being forced to just listen to April's interview on HC. Today, when last season's winner, Drew, was on, it froze up every few minutes. It wasn't an episode where you could spare to waste a few minutes here and there, either. Gretchen was absolutely hysterical, keeping me rolling on the floor laughing between bouts of restarting the CBS web page.
And if all that wasn't enough, the picture of "House Ca" was off-center, making me miss the whole right side of the screen. After several restarts, I resigned myself to this was just the way it was going to have to be.
Drew's legs give his opinions on this season of BB, being amazed at how personal it is this season, when he thought it should be so strategical. He thinks it has to do with being in there with partners for the reason everyone is so much more emotional than strategical. He imagines if he had been in there with his twin brother, how it would have changed his game.
Marcellas notes that this is the first season it has been so polarized with no interplay between the groups. Drew's legs agree, saying if the HGs aren't on the same team, they don't even talk. Gretchen adds it's not so subtle because there's only two groups, and says she enjoys it more with several smaller groups.
Drew's legs' favorite this season is Janelle, as she has surprised him. He saw the blond hair and discounted her, but she is just amazing. He just thinks it's amazing she has stuck around despite losing her partner the first week. The whole Cappy thing turned him off with the other group. Gretchen and Drew's legs both consider Kaysar as a favorite of theirs. Gretchen originally thought she'd like Maggie and Cappy because of their job descriptions, but she became disappointed in he way they were both the dictator type.
Marcellas goes as far to suggest Janelle is the ultimate BB player, even moreso than Will from season two, with the way she deals with shifts in the game and is invested. But at the same time, he thinks more and more that his favorite in the group is James. Drew's legs says he loves him too, with his comments in the DR that were always exactly what was on his mind. He also likes that he never became emotionally invested. Marcellas slips in that his least favorite is Ivette, and they quickly move on from there.
The first call is from Nick, who first says he is glad James is Marcellas' favorite as he's not the snake everyone thinks he is. He's just telling the truth. Nick also mentions Marcellas' upcoming Bold and the Beautiful appearance and wonders what Drew has been up to and if he intends on searching for an acting career as well.
Marcellas slips in quickly that his first Bold and Beautiful appearance is on September 20th, the same day as the BB finale. Drew says he moved out to California, took acting classes and went on auditions. He's in the process of learning how it works and things are going good right now.
Gretchen asks Drew if he had acting aspirations before BB. He says he did some acting and modeling after he graduated college. He also did some print and commercial work. BB seems to have opened up more opportunities. He calls BB a complete blessing. Confirming that Drew actually had his degree in marketing, Gretchen says he is smarter than the rest of them with degrees in theatre.
Drew's legs continue and say he brought his twin brother, Ben, with him out here to live with him. Gretchen says, "Oh, Studio City. You live by me!" Marcellas gets upset with her for telling everyone where they live, and he says she pushed his fear button. Drew and Ben are from OH and Gretchen's fiance went to college at Dayton. Drew's legs mention their website, drewdanielonline.com. Gretchen confirms the spelling of Daniel, and Marcellas asks how else would it be spelled? It's not like the name is Tanesha.
Back to the calls, Dennis calls and says he can't wait for tomorrow's showdown, good vs. evil. He says he ran into Diane from last season last week, and she didn't seem happy when he brought up Drew's name. Drew's legs explain he and Diane tried to go back to Ohio from Kentucky/Cincinnatti after the show was complete last year. They saw each other a few times, then both moved out here. They tired, but in the house it's like a deserted island. Some relationships work in the house, but never work outside. It ended, they are friends, and are on good speaking terms. Gretchen likens it to a prison love affair, referring to Diane as Drew's prison bitch.
Salon calls in wanting to talk about Ivette. I'd love to tell you what was said, but RealPlayer froze up and I had to restart the webpage. When it came back, I saw all of Drew, which was nice. When I went back tonight to catch what I missed from the archive, it's not up yet. So we'll have to leave it up in the air what Salon asked.
When I was able to tune back in, seeing all of Drew, Marcellas and Gretchen are discussing the HGs playing charades, and Maggie insisting it was only animal charades. Gretchen says she plays like her 12-year-old brother, as when she goes back home and plays with him, he also insists on animals. Marcellas says Maggie got armadillo and couldn't act it out real well, but notes she sort of looks like one.
Gretchen crouches down and tries to do an armadillo with a hump thing, tiny ears, looking in the headlights and curling into a ball. Marcellas says he thinks that would be more of an opossum. Gretchen admits to being rusty at animal charades and says she will practice later. She says she went to state in drunken animal charades.
Suzy calls in continuing the charades talk, saying she can't believe when Maggie put the horns up, Janie overlooked it. She wonders what will happen tomorrow as she doesn't think Janie is good under pressure. Marcellas asks if she doesn't mean Ivette, but Suzy still says she thinks Janie is the one that isn't good under pressure. Gretchen is often quiet and Marcellas asks if she's trying to figure out how to do an armadillo. She laughs, as that's exactly what she was doing, and says after 68 shows together, he can now read her mind.
Drew draws the conversation back to point and says Janie has what it takes to come through. He acknowledges it's true what they say on the boards; he does have a little crush on Janelle. He's asked who would voluntarily date him after the way he dumped Diane. He disputes this and says he had genuine feelings for Diane and has a genuine crush on Janelle. Marcellas says that's okay as he has a crush on James. Gretchen says even she has a crush on Janelle. She's hot.
A female caller says she has a crush on Janelle, too, and she's not gay. She's America's Sweetheart. No none is quite sure how a self-described buxom blonde became America's Sweetheart, as everyone thought that role would go to Sarah. They decide it's became Janelle is real, flaws and all.
Drew is asked by the caller if he is recognized on the street. Gretchen knows that's a good question and says she is about to be replaced because all she does it sit around figuring out how to be an armadillo. Drew says he still gets recognized and that it's mostly a good thing. He loves it. Marcellas says of course, as it's probably all pretty girls. Gretchen asks if his dating life has changed since the show, and Drew says he enjoys meeting people and is single right now.
This launches Drew into a story about trying to buy a couch. He said the salesman recognized him, and then said, "Cowboy should have won." Drew said after that he wasn't going to buy the couch. Drew is still friends with Cowboy, though, and even went to his wedding, along with Scott. He says it was a small, close knit type of thing. He still keeps in touch with Cowboy because he's a good guy at heart.
Marcellas asks w here the craziest place is that Drew has been recognized. He can't think of a crazy place, but says airplanes are fun. Marcellas says he gets upgraded that way. He hangs out at the counter for awhile waiting purposely, until someone says, "You're the idiot from BB that gave up the veto!" He and Gretchen joke that he's carrying a press release and his BB bag hoping for that.
Asked if he has ever dated a fan, Drew says no. Marcellas encourages him to do so, and says for a short run, it's not such a bad thing. Drew does admit, though, that his twin, Ben, has pretended a few times to be Drew to get the girls, although he always ends up admitting it's Ben and not Drew.
Karen calls in asking who Drew's least favorite HG is this season. He says April was, but now it has to go to Maggie, as he doesn't like how she's always so calm, cool and collected. He says Lori from last season says Maggie's demeanor is like that of someone from a cult. The scary this is that people actually listen to her. Gretchen says she's afraid to make eye contact with her. Marcellas says if she's the one evicted Friday he welcomes it. Gretchen is afraid to move to Vegas for fear that she'll become one of Maggie's minions.
Kyla calls wondering if alliances were the downfall for the Friendship. She thinks they should be caring more about the money. Janelle is there to win and playing hard, and the Friendship should be similarly focused on that instead of making friends. Marcellas still wishes that Ivette had gotten rid of Maggie being that she was the frontrunner.
Drew wonders who coined the named "Friendship" anyway. It's pointed out that he was also part of an alliance with a name "The Four Horsemen" and Gretchen admits to him that they refer to them as "The Four Horsemen and the Ottoman" because Cowboy seemed so useless. Drew says you think you'll be close friends on the outside as well, but once you're out, it's different. Gretchen wonders why that happens, saying if she's on a bus with someone, and they engage in a conversation, she doesn't pledge her loyalty to them. Marcellas explains it's not a three-month long bus ride.
Tiffany calls and says her least favorite part of the season was when Howie listened to Kaysar before he left and put James and Sarah on the block. Another of her least favorites was the second time he left. Marcellas believes that blunder and another cost the S6 the game. He also counts when Howie listened to Maggie about putting James and Sarah on the block. He believes that arrogance was Kaysar's downfall. Kaysar was the Maggie of his alliance; they both put themselves out there, willing to take the hit for their alliance. But Janelle was the one that was actually generating many of the plots. Gretchen says they should have employed the nit and wit strategy that she and Marcellas use.
Elizabeth first says she can't wait to watch Marcellas on Bold and the Beautiful and wants to know who he is in the scene with. He answers he's with Meg and Brook, and Gretchen adds a plug to also watch Marcellas host Soap Box daily on cbs.com.
Back to BB, Elizabeth asks if Jennifer can be influenced at all by April in sequester, and marcellas admits he's worried about that. He wonders about James, too, but hopes he would vote for Janelle as a good competitor, even if she is up against Ivette.
The talk moves to wondering what the final competition is and they wonder if it's animal charades, and maybe that's why they were practicing that. Drew and Marcellas remember that in season 3 and 5 they had asked HGs questions as they left the house, and the final competition is guessing which of the two it had been said about. Drew says that's hard, as after many of the people have left, you tend to forget, and have to recall all over again their experience with the show. Janelle is more honest about others' feelings for her than Ivette is, so they see this as something that could benefit Janelle.
The first thing Cody says when he calls into the show is, "I wanna Gretchen and Marcellas doll!" Gretchen thinks they'd just sit and talk to each other and Marcellas thinks they'd be anatomically correct and interactive. Code asks Drew if he has any advice for the HGs as they leave and go back to the outside world.
Drew says she watched all the episodes right way to see how he was portrayed. For some that saw themselves as so great – April, Maggie, Ivette – they could be in for a real shock and have to be ready to embrace it. Marcellas says the problem with that is with the editing this year, it wouldn't give them a true picture of how they're seen.
Marcellas reads a snippet of Kaysar's blog on Revenge of the Houseguests where he talks about his dislike for April, Maggie and Ivette. He refers to it as Wuthering Heights in a blog. Drew says people are different than they are inside the house, they aren't necssarily bad people, but sees that Kaysar brought up some good points as well.
Gretchen asks if even though the HGs act differently in the house than out, if there are some basic components of their real self in there. Drew agrees to that. Marcellas says he grew in the house, seeing what he needed to work on in his life. Gretchen once again makes a comparison to her own life and says she was at the airport, screaming out her sunroof, "Crazy bitch! Crazy bitch!" The woman she said that to probably thinks she's insane, looking at that one snippet of her life.
This was such a good show today, I wish I had been able to watch it interrupted and to see all of Drew. Maybe it was all of that that has me a little "off." My recaps this week have had the wrong date on them, and yesterday I put today's title on yesterday's recap. Calling it armadillo must have seemed oddly out of context. I hate to change it now, and confuse people, having them think it's yet another recap. Maybe I should have called it "Crazy Bitch."
