Big Brother 6 - House Calls, September 6th – Taking The Good With The Badby LauraBelle
I have waited all weekend for this. As soon as the rumors hit early Saturday that it was Beau that was evicted, I started anticipating Marcellas facing off against Beau. Oddly, Marcellas seems more subdued than normal, and only later do we find out why.
When Beau calls in, he seems very chipper, and when asked, says he's taking it better than he had thought he would. He speaks of the emotional investment, and says of course it worked out how it should. As it is often with Beau, it's not clear what he is referring to.
Marcellas asks if Beau is happy to be reunited with Jennifer in the sequester house. Beau gets very excited and refers to Jen as "my baby." Quite frankly it's a little sickening.
It doesn't get any better when Beau is asked what he contributed to the game. He laughs and says of course he was the token gay guy, and if I'm not istaken, Marcellas is biting his lip. Beau also believes he brought passion, laughter and his wit to the game. I can't even attempt to describe it in words, but Marcellas facial expressions during this are priceless and somehow convey everything I'm thinking.
Asked if the experience was harder or easier than he had figured it to be beforehand, Beau says it was easier as he was going through it with other people in the same situation. He halfway re-explains it and says it didn't affect him as much as he thought it would. He seems to change the topic midstream, saying phone calls are his forte. I think he's trying to say being able to relate to people made it easier, but in true Beau form, he doesn't quite get there in the explanation.
Gretchen just has to ask about Beau's peepee and what prompted him to show it off after being so guarded in the beginning and saying he didn't want to do anything to embarrass his mother. Beau at first does his now-famous scream, then explains that it's embarrassing and not his fault. Once one person saw it, he just went with the flow. Sorry, I was watching that night. It was not accidental. He opened the shower door and stood there knowing Ivette, April and Maggie were out there.
Juan calls, asking who Beau thinks is the weakest player in the house. He tells us casting would never cast weak people, then names April right away. He says she won HoH and veto, so he can't judge. Gee, that was informative.
Brittany calls in asking what Beau missed the most while on BB. He says his cell phone, without missing a beat. This is followed by him stating he also missed his family and clients. It must be hid cell phone that ties him to all this.
Jen asks if Beau feels he played a strategic game. This is actually an interesting strategy, I must admit. His plan was to be friends with the quietest girl and biggest jock. The biggest jock is obviously Howie, but who the quietest girl is is somewhat of a mystery. Gretchen has the same question, and Beau answers the quietest girl was Maggie. This is apparently too much for Marcellas. He reaches behind him, picks up a nail file, and files his nails.
I know these questions have to pass through the producers so that Beau isn't asked anything that would taint the jury. All I can cay is I wish I could have heard the questions that weren't let through, as these are pretty mundane. Chaz wants to know what Beau will do when he gets out of the sequester house and wonders if he'll pursue acting. Please don't egg him on, Chaz. Beau says he wouldn't mind acting and will probably look up agents when he is out. He'll take a vacation first and then probably get back to his personal shopping clients.
Gretchen takes this opportunity to ask something that has been bugging her. She wants to know what he meant in his nomination speech about black and white and the percentages. He says it was part personal and part strategy, and that Howie had his moments like when he blew up at April and Rachel was constantly going back and forth. He felt Rachel was a threat. Okay, Beau, thanks for that, but it still doesn't really explain it. It will remain one of life's greatest mysteries.
Angie calls in asking who Beau thought the strongest in the house was. He mentions Kaysar right off the bat, then adds James to the list as well. Of course he isn't saying he himself wasn't able to manipulate and get people on his side, but Kaysar and James were able to get answers out of him without him knowing.
While he's talking about the men in the house, Gretchen wonders what was truly behind Beau's flirting with Howie. Beau says he was a great guy and had a way with people. He also needs fashion and hygiene advice. I won't argue with you on that, BeauBeau, but creamsicle pants aren't exactly the way for Howie to go either. He says it was more genuininity (my spellcheck says this isn't a word, Beau) and not strategy.
K.C. asks who Beau feels will be lifelong friendships and lifelong enemies of his fellow HGs. He know he will have lifelong friendships with Jennifer, Maggie, Cappy and Ivette. He notes he was friends with Ivette before, of course, but it's much stronger now. It's interesting that he doesn't name April. His lifelong enemy he knows will be Janelle, seeing her as a typical South Beach Girl, and thinking of her as an accessory.
After being mute for several minutes, Marcellas finally speaks as he and Gretchen offer up their eviction predictions that they made before the season started. Marcellas thought Beau would either leave in week one or be the winner. Gretchen had predicted week ten. Beau is bid adieu and told to enjoy the sequester house.
After Gretchen has it confirmed that Beau is safely off the line, she turns to Marcellas and asks, "What the hell was that? I had to do all the work!" He says he was raised very well and can't say anything at all if he can't say anything nice. He does not like Beau as a person or how he played the BB game. He had wanted Beau to win and represent black homosexual men, but was let down. He felt it was better to be quiet than offer up subtle digs. He says it was not him being rude; it was him trying not to be rude. Out of respect for human beings and himself he chose not to say anything at all.
Angie calls saying she loves them, but she didn't like what Marcellas did. She can understand that as a way to not be rude and not ask questions, but she objected to the nail filing I believe. Trish calls in echoing Angie saying she is a big viewer, but it did come across as rude and arrogant. Marcellas wants to know how different it was than when he interviewed Jen. Trish says she didn't see that show, and Marcellas points out she has no frame of reference then.
Cici calls in with support for Marcellas. She feels it was appropriate behavior as a human being. She also notes how hard it was to listen as English appears to be Beau's second language. Marcellas points out Beau has talked about Marcellas behind his back, has said he wouldn't behave sexual, then got drunk in bed, and has said he would never date a black person.
Cici says there were so many things Beau said that shouldn't have been said on a national program. He obviously has some 12-step knowledge, then went on to slam AA. Marcellas asks what he is supposed to say to someone like that. He has to put it out there and says he's just donated more money than ever before in his life to the Katrina victims. He doesn't want to talk to someone that is not contributing something positive. He was trying to be amusing with the nail file, and lighten up the mood, but some days it's harder to pull that off.
Gretchen takes the opportunity to send thoughts and prayers to the Katrina victims and urge people to help wherever they can. What they have is not even close to what is needed to rebuild and get people situated. She wishes she could be more hands on herself, but notes her family, living in Texas, has been there helping physically.
In Marcellas defense, Gretchen says Beau did bring up his name the whole show. He did choose to make it personal, but with her, Beau doesn't even know who she is.
Tiffany calls saying she agrees that if something nice can't be said, nothing should be said at all. She asks if there is anything that can be done to sway the votes of the Friendship on the jury if Howie or Janelle make it. Marcellas and Gretchen say if Janelle makes it to final two with Ivette or April, she needs to tell all that April did trying to get Ivette out of the house. It needs to be reinforced how Janelle played and won things, and that she was not playing under the radar. Marcellas says some of the jury will understand. Howie, Rachel and James will see that Janelle played an amazing game. He thinks she is the brightest person in the house.
Kimberly calls in saying she believes Marcellas handled the interview well. Gretchen offers up jokingly that Marcellas really did have a hangnail that was snagging her sweater, and that's why he was filing. Marcellas says his biggest slight to Beau will be to no longer mention him. He was in a lose/lose situation and couldn't say anything that would change the way they feel in the sequester house. In season three he would have let him know what he thought right away. He knows he's evolving.
Jim calls with more support, saying not to worry about the earlier callers. He wants to then know if Ivette won the most useless HoH and if Maggie threw it. Marcellas asks wouldn't it have been brilliant had Ivette gone over, making Maggie win anyway? She clearly didn't want to win, to not have to make the decision on who should leave. She wants to manipulate, but behind the scenes. If Marcellas had to pick one member of the Fiendship to win, he would pick Maggie, as she wasn't afraid to say she was running the show.
Elaine calls in talking about before Janelle left the gold room last week and Maggie told Beau to rip up the clothes that Janelle had left behind, and instead he just hid them under the bed. She likes how they can then talk about morals and integrity after that. When Elaine asks if people that like the Fiendship only do because they don't see the feeds, Marcellas remembers the Maggie fan that called last week. She had the feeds, and Marcellas thinks they just choose to see the good only in these people. The same goes for Marcellas liking Janelle. He knows she has said racist things and feels she should have fought harder for Ashlea, but he and Gretchen are commentators. That's what they do. Trust me, I understand.
Gretchen says she can't wrap her brain around how hypocritical the Fiendship is and says no one is giving them an accurate perspective in the house. They jump on their high horses and then throw around words like integrity and morals. Marcellas admits here to Gretchen that he has changed his view of lies. He now realizes you have to do it to get along in the show.
Michelle calls in with more support. She doesn't believe marcellas did anything at all wrong with Beau. He thinks he showed Beau more respect than he showed Marcellas or himself. He tried to change it up and do things different than he had done with Jennifer. He felt it was better and more respectful to remain quiet than to argue.
Michelle asks if the HGs know the live feeds are on 24/7 or not. Maggie has given the impression that they don't know. Marcellas believes they do know and are using it as a disclaimer for their bad behavior. He mentions the Fiendship complaining this weekend that Janelle won the veto competition and later saying they think she blew the cameraman. To even think the Fiendship has morals makes Marcellas ill.
Me too, Marcellas! The sad thing to me is I don't think the Fiendship will ever see the error of their ways. Marcellas could have argued with Beau til he was blue in the face today, and Beau would have denied it, as is the Fiendship way, and in the end still wouldn't see the other side of the coin. The true integrity of the game, and HC, would have been affected.
I know where Marcellas is coming from as far as being a "commentator." I want these recaps to be fun too. And when disgusting things happen, it's hard to make them fun. When a national crisis is going on, it's so hard to forget, but as caring people we need to forget once in awhile for our own sanity.
As Marcellas had his share of positive and negative calls today on his actions, I understand it, as I get the same type of mail from readers. I've read the nicest comments said about my work that mean so much to me. It truly makes my whole day; I've been reduced to tears out of happiness for how great someone has made me feel. Yet there are also the occasional ones that want to attack me as a person, and all I want to do is offer a flippant comment back. It takes everything in my power to take a deep breath, thank them and move on. It's just part of it, sitting here and making editorial comments. It's part of sitting there hosting a talk show. You have to take the good and bad, whether it's the viewers or the guests.
Yet I always welcome it, and that's why I leave my email here every day.
