Whoa Bobby, It’s About to be a Girl Fight! - Being Bobby Brown, Episode 8
by Tommie Nicole Boyd

Spice is the name of the restaurant where Whitney and Bobby are engaged in a spicy debate over religion when the 8th Episode of Being Bobby Brown begins. Bobby asks the young lady sitting at the table with the couple, “So, you’re a Christian?” She nods her head yes.

Whitney adds in her confirmation that as a Christian the woman believes that Jesus is her Lord and Savior.

The young woman retorts yes he is her savior, as if to negate that he is her Lord. Bobby chimes in with her stating that he is not Lord and Savior because that is giving God too many names.

Declaring he is the Most High, Whitney says in her house they shall serve the Lord. I finally agree with her on something. The conversation becomes too tense for Bobby who escapes from the table.

Outside, an SUV drives past with someone yelling, “Free Bobby Brown.”

Bobby shouts, “Yeah, yeah,” and then asks, “Why does everybody always think I am locked up somewhere.”

I always tell you how much I enjoy the opening. However, this week instead of singing the song, I concentrate on the images of the opening, and realize that the scenes shown are actually show moments.

The one I remember that stands out the most is when Bobby is in the chef’s hat and Whitney is standing beside him. This is from the infamous Mother’s Day episode. What I also find interesting is a picture the wall when they show Bobby Jr. It looks like a painting of a tree and it says “Free Me.” I am curious to know if that is an actual picture in his room or if there is double meaning behind why they chose to have that in the opening. It could be a message from Bobby saying “Free Me” from this negative media persona or from jail. It could mean a lot of things or it could just be a picture, you know.

Bobby and the family are off to Miami to do a track with the legendary Marley brothers. He thinks that song will be a hot one. There is so much confusion at the airport, I am not sure if the family is coming or going. Bobby is rushing Whitney who is greeting Uncle Tommy. Somehow her parents lose Bobby Kris who rejoins them. They all get into the limo.

Inside the limo, Whitney is smoking a cigarette. Bobby informs her that the kids told him that he cannot smoke around them anymore. He tells her that she has to put out the cigarette. “Second hand smoke kills everybody,” yells Brown.

Whitney really doesn’t seem to care and diverts Bobby’s attention to an overhead light that she says is killing her.

Okay, from the scenery I can tell that they are in Miami. That’s where they said they were going but I couldn’t tell. It may be they cold medicine I just took, I am a little under the weather. The limo passes by palm trees, water falls and a strip of night clubs and motels.

Next Bobby and Tommy arrive at Marley Studios. Our friendly neighborhood narrator is back. Bobby describes how music has always been #1 in his life. He tells how excited he is to be working with the fabulous sons of the late Bob Marley. Bobby expresses that he wants to get back into music because it’s been too long. Yes, it has Mr. Man.

After greeting his hosts, Bobby goes straight to the microphone and producer Stephen Marley cues up the song. An up tempo beat accompanied by a speedy reggae rap begins and Stephen Marley guides Bobby by singing “Beau-ti-ful.”

Bobby begins to sing in his husky melodic tone. He is really feeling the music and so are Stephen and his brother producer Damian Marley and Uncle Tommy. Mr. Cheeks of the Lost Boys is also on hand and rocking to the infectious beat. As Bobby continues to sing, everyone is all smiles and you can tell the Marley’s and Bobby are happy with what they have created.

I really like the song from what I’ve heard and can’t wait to hear Bobby’s new album.

Bobby even lets out one of his infamous woos as his finishes up. As a fan, I know when Bobby gets to screaming woos and ows on a song, it’s a hit. That means he’s excited and feeling it.

The king of R&B says he thinks it is time to get back out there because he sees other artists, but nobody is Bobby.

Back at the family’s Miami Condo, Whitney is putting on some sort of wetsuit skirt and she and Bobby share another moment. Bobby kids around with the cameraperson blowing his breath and explaining how funky it is.

Whitney asks Bobby what is wrong with him and he tells her jokingly, playing with a bowl of plastic fruit, that there is no fruit in the house.

I am thinking to myself that maybe they could have left that scene on the cutting room floor or at least used it for the DVD outtakes instead of passing it off as a significant moment. I find myself yawning. I no longer think it’s the cold medicine I took but actually the show itself.

Just when I think this episode has turned into a dull one, Bobby turns on his electric toothbrush and says how he told Whitney not to get excited because it’s just a toothbrush. Bobby is probably detailing a little too much of the couples' private moments since Whitney is hitting at him to get his “ass” in the bathroom and shut up. Mr. Brown finally retreats with his toothbrush in his hand and Whitney goes outside for some sunshine.

A trip to the grocery store is next on Bobby’s agenda. He tells us how much he loves food.

While shopping for everything from Beluga to wine, Bobby tries to hold the freezer door open for an older woman. He politely tries to get her attention, asking her if she has the door because he doesn’t want it to close on her. She continues to ignore him and he finally lets it loose closing the rude shopper between the door and frozen goods freezer. Next, Bobby signs the shirt of a very happy deli worker.

As they leave the store the total amount spent comes to $698.98. Bobby says that should be enough. You think?

Back at the condo, Bobby is on the sofa biting his wife’s toe nails while she sleeps. She wakes up and tells him that he is not well.

The family starts to put up the groceries and Bobby accuses his daughter Bobby Kristina of trying to pick pocket him. She tells him that he doesn’t need all of the money in his pocket. “If daddy won’t feed the needy, daddy is just greedy,” sings the little girl. Whitney joins in and they all sing the song.

Later in the day, Bobby declares that he fries fish way better than Tommy. Tommy says maybe Bobby’s fish is better but his brother has nothing on him when it comes to the fried shrimp because his shrimp is the best.

The men decide to have a shrimp off.

Bobby says when it comes to cooking he is so much better than Tommy. Whitney comes out to check on the guys and when Twyon tells her they are having a cook-off she says, “Uncle Tommy can throw down on some shrimp.”

Finally, the shrimp are ready. They look plump and golden brown. The taste-tester says that both are good but the vanilla hint of Bobby’s shrimp is something new. He says it’s 50/50. Uncle Tommy is not buying that it’s a tie because he thinks that he should have won.

“Y’all have got to be sh#*ing me,” he says.

“I know this is Bobby’s show but come on, wait til I get my show,” yells Uncle Tommy still in disbelief that he didn’t win.

Sitting poolside, Bobby says he has about 3 years and 6 months to retire. He wants to start with a bang and a nice summer tour. With it being mid-August, somehow I don’t quite think that summer tour is gonna happen. Well at least not this summer anyway.

The kids are playing in the pool as usual and Bobby is messing with Whitney again this time trying to squeeze her nose. Next the two discuss Bobby’s new song. He sings his wife the chorus and she tells him he got that from SWV (Sisters With Voices). Whitney sings a little of the group’s 1990 hit song “Right Here” but Bobby tells her its not the same.

Off-camera, Whitney kicks Bobby and when the cameras go back to the couple he says he is going to take out a restraining order on his wife. The two keep messing around with each other just enjoying each others presence.

Bobby and Bobby Kris take a trip to Bobby’s hometown of Boston. Before landing both father and daughter are fast asleep. Once on the ground the two kid around in the limo. Bobby and Bobby Kris fake cry saying “I miss my mommy.”

Bobby says he tries to make sure his kids are around each other because it’s important for them to grow up together.

In the parking lot of Kids Sport, Bobby is happy to be back in his hometown and does a little song and dance.

Inside, Bobby reunites with his son Bobby Jr. who is a little surprised to see his younger sister Krissy has come along.

Back outside, Bobby gets in the car to go and pick up his oldest daughter LaPrincia. Still standing outside with his cousin and friends, Bobby Jr. tells them that Krissy is the annoying one. She defends herself saying she is not annoying.

Bobby Kris sort of waves her brother off saying she needs to go and see her sister. When they finally get to where LaPrincia is, Bobby Kris yells out to her sister.

Bobby Brown jumps out to see his daughter and tells her how short she is. She starts poking at his protruding gut.

Bobby narrates that his daughter is growing up so fast and is a social butterfly. He also tells the boys to be afraid, be very afraid.

Bobby Kris who was so eager to see her sister doesn’t even get out of the car. LaPrincia signals to her to come here and she sort of sinks further down in her seat locking the door so her sister can’t open it. Her sister finally gets the door open but Krissy won’t get out. She refuses to get out so the girls both say fine bye.

It may be because I have the cold accompanied with tonsillitis and can barely hold my head up but these two have annoyed me in just that instant.

LaPrincia goes back over to her friend and Krissy stays in the car just looking.

Now we have learned from the previous 7 episodes that no matter where he is, Bobby will find himself a drink. He leaves the girls outside and goes into what I guess is the house of one of LaPrincia’s friends.

While drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette, Bobby says that the kids are going to drive him crazy. Some Leprechaun looking guy tells him that he is getting old. He asks Bobby how old he is and Bobby says 35. The guy tells Bobby that he is still a youngster.

The man jokes with Bobby telling him he looks better in person because he saw one of his pictures in the paper and he looked like sh$t. Bobby and the man continue conversing and the next thing you know everyone has come inside the house. After giving out pounds and engaging in a finger duel with Bobby Jr., Mr. Brown exits the house saying that it is time to roll.

The next morning at the Charles Hotel the girls play with Bobby’s face trying to wake him up. Uncle Tommy tells them to just come on because he’s not going to wake up.

The girls go shopping with one of LaPrincia’s girlfriends. While shopping for clothes Bobby Kris asks her sister is that all she has and she tells her yes because she is not really into the whole shopping thing. Bobby Kristina on the other hand has a wad of hundreds to shop with. You can tell she is no amateur to shopping.

In the next store, Bobby Kris spends more money and then says she is hungry. While walking down the street Bobby Kris again says that she is hungry. Meanwhile, Bobby Brown is over at Samuel Adams getting his drink on. Surprising, right?

Soon Bobby has had enough, but when one of his drinking pals tells him to have one for the road, he lets the friendly man know that he has kids to take care of.

Bobby Kris is now hot and needs an iceberg or something. LaPrincia is kind of ignoring her sister’s whining and talking to her friend. The two meet back up with their dad and LaPrincia tricks Bobby into thinking she got her belly-button pierced. He chases after her and inspects it more closely then Bobby Kris tells him she got her upper ear lobe pierced. He gets frustrated and tells them to go to the hotel room and that he will hand out ass-whippings later.

He explains to us that he can discipline his kids but he’s a softy when it comes to the girls because they are too cute.

Back at the hotel, LaPrincia tells Bobby’s nephew Jairam about Krissy being a big spender. Someone also says that Krissy thinks that she is 35 and she says that she does not. She appears to get offended with the conversation being about her and she walks out of the room.

Outside, Bobby asks his son where Krissy is, but Bobby Jr. doesn’t know. The elder Brown says he doesn’t know what is going on, but does not like that Krissy won’t speak to her sister.

LaPrincia walks up and tells her dad Krissy still won’t talk to her and Bobby asks her why Krissy is acting like that. LaPrincia looks confused and very annoyed.

Bobby calls out to his baby daughter to come here. She tells him to leave her alone. He tells her to go with her sister. She says “No.” Bobby becomes agitated demanding that she goes with her sister.

She then walks up to some stranger and asks him if she can use his phone. The gentleman looks like he doesn’t know what the heck is going on. Krissy still wants a phone. She sits on a bench and an angry Bobby tells the cameraperson to get away from him. There is still a cameraperson behind the two of them and the camera zooms in on what Bobby thinks is a private discussion. Bobby probes the child but she is not forthcoming with why she is mad. He then notices the sneaky lens looker and says that means you too. The cameraperson gets the message and we get a commercial break.

After the break, LaPrincia tries again to talk to her sister but then says she is being a brat and she is not even going to try anymore.

Bobby tells Krissy that he doesn’t know what is wrong but that she is not going to be walking around by herself like she is a grown up. She sits on some steps looking very sad saying that she wants to be by herself.

He tells her that he is sending her sister’s friend home. He then explains to us that the girls sometimes get upset with one another because they have a friend around and the other just wants to be alone with her sister. He wants them to grow up and understand that they need each other a lot more than their friends need them.

Bobby makes the girls go and talk.

From what we hear because they talk in the ladies room, LaPrincia asks Bobby Kris if she has her period and Krissy says no and then apologizes to her sister. They both emerge from the bathroom all smiles.

They sit at the table happily enjoying each other while Bobby looks at the transformation like he needs another beer. You can tell they have plucked their Daddy’s last nerve. Usually I would discourage Bobby from having a beer but in this case, Go ahead Bobby, get yourself a cold one, you deserve it. Until next week, be happy, be healthy and as always, be yourself.
