Interview with Josh Abston of Average Joe 4: The Joes Strike Back

by Hildee Weiss Josh, tell us what made you try out for Average Joe 4. I never actually auditioned for Average Joe 4. I was pulled from another NBC affiliate network show. What did you think of the other contestants? Was there anyone you became close friends with? It was very easy to get along with both the Joes and the Jocks. I’ve always been in positions where I needed to interact in positive ways with multiple people. I am able to walk into different situations, get a feel for the atmosphere and then become a positive participant. This was the case during the filming. I particularly became friends with Rocky, Brad and Greg during the show. After the show, I became friends with many of the people, including some of the Joes. Do you have any regrets about appearing on Average Joe 4? Absolutely not! It was a great experience and I hope it will open some new doors in my modeling/acting career. Is there any thing that happened that NBC edited out of the show that you wish they had included? Due to editing, I feel that not enough of my true personality showed through. I am a cut-up and I love to have fun. I don’t think that that was revealed on the show. Were you surprised that Anna wound up picking Average Joe Nathan Griffin? Yes, I was. She had eliminated him once and even though his looks were changed, I’m not sure how his personality changed. I do think his confidence changed and that might be what made the difference. You were shown crying when Anna eliminated you. Were the tears real or were they just for the camera? They were real but exaggerated by the circumstances. It was all about being caught up in the moment in a romantic spot. What do you really think of Anna now? We have a good friendship and we support each other in our professional endeavors. What is your current occupation? Any special projects in the works? Currently, I am back in Las Vegas. I am a lead in the new Sara Evans video, “A Really Fine Place To Start” and number 12 on the CMT countdown. I had an appearance on HBO’s “The Comeback” with Rocky (from Average Joe 4). I recently did a spread that is set to appear in 944 magazine so be on the look out. I am looking for opportunities in modeling and acting to enhance that part of my career.
