Big Brother 6 - House Calls, August 3rd - Julie Chen Live In Studio
by LauraBelle

This is just a fun-packed week all around on House Calls. Yesterday the Production Designer of the house, Scott Storey joined the show, today, Julie Chen is live in the studio with Marcellas and Gretchen. It looks to be a good show!

Marcellas admits worrying about what he was going to wear from the moment he heard Julie was going to be on the show. He couldn't decide whether to dress up or down for her. He finally settled on shopping for a blazer for the occasion.

The first caller, Jennifer, wants to first say that she thinks Marcellas is the only person that understands her love for Christopher Maloney. Marcellas explains who Chris is, realizing Julie and Gretchen are at a loss. He's the detective on Law and Order SVU, although Marcellas first gets it mixed up and calls it SUV.

Jennifer then would like to know who Julie would like to see on a Big Brother All-Stars. She isn't sure yet who she would want from this year, but she would like, in order, Marcellas, Will Kirby from season 2, Amy, Mike Boogie if he behaves, Diane and both twins from last season, Roddy, and Chicken George from the first season. Marcellas suggests Jun and Alison from season four and Jase from last season. He thinks he had a good grasp of the game, despite being a little nutty. Gretchen has to note here how no one wants to bring back Marvin or Cowboy. Marcellas suggests maybe if there was a "Special Big Brother" for people that should never have been on the show in the first place, Cowboy would be there.

Tish calls in asking how Julie balances both BB and The Early Show. Julie says she sleeps wherever and whenever she can. Today she slept during the segments she wasn't involved in on The Early Show. Gretchen asks if she has some type of contraption with a pillow, and Julie explains she doesn't need comfort. Her day starts around 1:30 AM to be at the studio around 2:00. Ideally it ends at 6:00, but with the work on Discovery today, she was there longer. Marcellas is shocked at the Discovery news; he hadn't been aware that was going on.

Going back to the All-Stars question, Billy asks if Julie would consider giving up hosting to being a contestant. Julie laughs and says with that list of who she would like on there, no. Yet even with her friends she wouldn't be interested in doing it. She wouldn't even like doing anything like Surreal Life; she enjoys her privacy too much. Marcellas mentions that many celebrities have expressed interest in the show and suggests during an All-Star Celebrity BB.

Melissa calls in asking if Julie is involved in picking HGs. She says she is not, and is only shown pictures and videos of the people that are selected, but that's it. Gretchen wants to know if, when she sees these contestants at face value, she is ever close to imagining the type of people they end up being on the show. Julie says never. They all thought Jase was going to be the boy next door type, and he wasn't anything like that, more like a monster on crack.

Joy asks who Julie's favorite HG is this season. She would also like to know since she is on the news in the morning, why do HGs not get to see major news events. As for HGs, Julie's favorite is Janelle, as she has proven she is not a dumb blonde. She is rooting for her to win. Julie has wanted to combine news events and a game, like a true/false type of thing. Marcellas does add in here that Julie does show on The Early Show this season the scenes that don't make the show, to combine her two jobs.

Gretchen talks about how her friends keep asking her if the show is fixed, especially when watching the Matching Munchies game, as the answers seemed to follow a pattern. Julie says this is purely coincidence. Marcells notes too the producers want them to not eat. They want them to lose as the PB&J increases the craziness.

Marcellas asks if Julie has a favorite competition and she loves the gross out ones the most. She also liked the sumo wrestling one they did in season one, in the big costumes.

As they check the feeds, Marcellas guesses they are in HoH with Maggie crying, Gretchen guesses they are brushing their teeth and Julie guesses they are eating breakfast. Julie wins as Janelle is in the kitchen. Julie asks if Marcellas thought he would love Janelle as much as he does, and he says yes, but he didn't think she would be as smart as she has turned out to be. He does believe she needs to stop eating the PB&J, as certain girls do get thicker every season. They point out how this had happened to Jun, and Marcellas thinks this is the meanest thing ever on BB. They did a split screen and showed her body before and after.

Susan calls in to say she disagrees with Marcellas and Gretchen, as she thinks Maggie is playing a brilliant game. She wonders if they find it funny that Kaysar's team is depending on the strategy of someone who is on their way out of the house. They believe there is a chance Kaysar is working on a strategy to actually stay, almost like a reverse psychology.

The talk moves back to Maggie and everyone following Cappy's alliance as they don't have confidence in themselves. He has already been labeled an evictee, yet they're still following him. Marcellas points out he was only there for twenty days and didn't do anything to change the face of the game. He also believes Maggie wasn't playing smart here when she didn't act on Julie's news last week that the couples would receive more money. Gretchen points out you would never want to be a single at the end with a couple, as you'd be the third man out. She points out that doesn't even work in a roommate type of situation.

Laura calls in and asks who the HG is that Julie has disliked the most. Julie answers that she thinks Jase was mean and a bully. She hated how he dogged Will. This is the one person that if she saw him on the street, she might act like she didn't see him. Marcellas says he liked Jase, but also admits to sometimes being blinded by good abs. Gretchen has to say she didn't like Jase either and thought he was mean-spirited. Marcellas thinks of him as a Prince Valiant for Holly at times.

Kim calls in asking if she missed something, or if James always wants Sarah to do his dirty work. All agree that he is trying to protect her, but he does make it look like he is willing to have her take the fall. They also all agree that Sarah would be crushed if she realized James was using her. Marcellas hates her working James' agenda. Julie notes that when they get private time Sarah always wants to talk about how much she loves him, etc., and Julie wants to yell at her to talk strategy. Gretchen points out how in the beginning she was so focused on her jealousy of the other women, she was having a hard time playing the game.

Missy wants to know if there is ever a HG that Julie feels like calling out on their actions. Julie says there is a fine line between doing that and not putting them on the spot. She wouldn't want them to feel interrogated. The time she did, though, was with Robert from season 4. He had called all women horrible names. She had to call him out on it. Marcellas mentions how he wants to give them some latitude, as they are under stress. It's pointed out that Robert had said ALL women, though.

Marcellas tells Julie he thinks she walks that fine line very well. Yet he does have to point out that when he sat with Julie after being evicted she hit him and called him an idiot. This was after he didn't use the PoV on himself. He says his mom has told him since that Julie should hit him for that.

The last caller, Ryan, calls in asking if Julie has ever been surprised that a relationship that was created in the house didn't work on the outside. Julie notes that Will and Shannon from season two lasted four years. Rob and Amber are brought up, and Marcellas says he knew them from before they got together, and he sees this as a cash transaction, but won't go into any more details.

Julie is asked if we can expect more secrets and she says there is one big one that will be on Thursday night live. The audience and HGs will all find out about it. Julie's hunch is that Kaysar is leaving that night and Gretchen and Marcellas think it will be Janelle.

This was a great show. I had to wonder at one point how tall Julie is. Sitting next to Marcellas and Gretchen, she looks as tall as Marcellas and taller than Gretchen. That was surprising to me. I was also surprised at how warm she was away from her studio. I wouldn't have expected her to be like that. It was a great surprise.
