To Tahiti We Go - Average Joe 4: The Joes Strike Back, Episode 5 by Hildee Weiss
The time has finally come and Anna and the four remaining contestants are headed for Tahiti. But wait. The limo pulls to a stop and Anna is told to get out and stand by a set of fountains. She has no idea why she’s there, especially because she’s penniless at this important moment. Suddenly, a made over Joshua appears. “Jesus has been recreated as a GQ model,” quips Arthur from inside the limo.
Nathan is next and he impresses Anna with his new look. Anna notes that Nicholas the magician seems more grown up, now that he isn’t showing off his tricks. As Arthur wonders if he should have gotten his eyes done, Dante re-introduces himself to Anna. He confesses that he wanted a second chance if it’s at all possible. Anna thinks it’s great that the guys were given the opportunity to change themselves for themselves and not for her. She announces to the four made-over Joes that one of them is going to Tahiti with her and the other four contestants. She picks Nathan because a) he had the least amount of time with her and b) he has changed the most. Nathan confesses that he’s shocked every time he sees himself in the mirror.
In Tahiti, Anna and Rocky go mountain biking. Though Anna realizes that they share a strong, passionate bond, she wants to know what is inside that head of his. She wonders how an aspiring model and actor like him can have a serious relationship. Rocky counters that actors have normal lives and he deserves the chance to be with someone special. Call me a cynic but will someone please remind me what Anna does for a living.
Josh the Joe and Anna enjoy kayaking and snorkeling in a coral reef. Back at the bungalow, Josh accidentally spills coffee on Anna. She prefers decaf but she tells him not to lose any sleep over it. Josh shares in his confessional that he is definitely falling for Anna.
Anna and Josh the Jock share kisses, clink helmets and hold hands underwater while on an aqua safari. Back on dry land, Josh presents Anna with a piece of coral to remember him by.
Anna feels like she’s a teenager all over again while on her date with Nathan. They’re gazing at each other for what seems like hours, not knowing who or when to make the first move. Nate makes her blush, claims Anna. Determined not to give up on this second chance with Anna, Nathan moves in for the kill … I mean, kiss. He says it took a lot for him to kiss her, as first kisses are hard but he came back to try new boundaries. And back he is as Nathan impresses Anna with several smooches and his newfound confidence.
As Arthur prepares for his date with Anna, he compares himself to an expectant father. Does Anna have the same smile and the same enthusiasm that she had on their first date? To keep the fire burning, Arthur presents a huge bouquet of flowers to Anna. She’s impressed. As for poor Artie, he’s got butterflies in his stomach. Better those butterflies than the bee sting on Anna’s foot. Their stroll down the beach comes to a halt when Anna feels something in her foot. Little did Art know that he would be performing triage on their second date!
Back on their beach walk, Art opens up to a pedicured Anna. He doesn’t know if she believes in love at first sight but he feels he’s falling for her. He notes that it happened to him once before and he got hurt but he’s grateful to be experiencing this feeling again with her. He is healed and he is ready to move on and the person he wants to move forward with is right there next to him! Anna likes that Arthur is a true romantic. He gifts her with a Tahitian pearl for a bracelet so she remembers their night in Tahiti.
All set to introduce her Tahitian jewelry line on QVC, Anna gathers up her five dates for the elimination ceremony. She first says goodbye to Josh the Joe. He was always thanking her, she says, and she doesn’t want to be put on a pedestal. Next, she bids farewell to Josh the Jock, who bawls like a baby at the thought of being rejected. Finally, she says adieu to Arthur. He’s the hardest guy to say goodbye to, she confides, because he was such a gentleman and he poured his heart out to her. What they shared was beautiful but she knows in her heart of hearts, that they are not in the same place.
That leaves Nathan and Rocky for the final chance to win over Anna. Will she pick the sweet and no longer so average Joe over the hunky struggling actor/model?
