What's Hot On TV Tonight – 3 Hour Survivor Finale!

survivor_martyr1.jpg.jpeg Perhaps the best part of watching the Survivor is at the end when you trying to figure how it will go and why. I can’t see Erinn winning, but I can see someone wanting to take her figuring on the easy win. Conversely, I can’t see anyone wanting to take Taj. She’s took likable. And everyone gave her their money two weeks ago instead of buying food with it. Would they give her a million as well? Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see her take the win, but I think it will go to Stephen.

What's Hot On TV Tonight – What Are We Going to Do Next Thursday?

0000051883_20080912170953.jpg.jpeg

We have so many season finales tonight, I’m wondering what we’re going to do next Thursday. And one of the few that isn’t ending tonight, Survivor, ends on Sunday. This means, not including cable, that next week, we’ll only be left with Southland and Ugly Betty. And there’s only one thing that starts next Thursday, So You Think You Can Dance. What are we going to have over the rest of the dial?

1. Regis and Kelly. We continue “winner’s week” with the winner of America’s Next Top Model that just wrapped up last night, along with Jeff Probst to talk about this weekend’s finale of Survivor. Syndicated, check local listings.

2. Fracture. Anthony Hopkins is superb as usual in this as a guy who murders his adulterous wife in cold blood, then dares her lover, the lead detective on the scene, to prove he did it. 10:30 AM Cinemax East

3. The Last Mimzy. A kids’ sci-fi fantasy film with a brother and sister that find a toy and a stuffed animal from the future, and the toy begins to make this normally gifted boy much more so, while the stuffed animal gives directions to the little girl. Timothy Hutton, Joely Richardson, and Rainn Wilson star. 11:00 AM CT HBO Family East

What's Hot On TV Tonight – Michael J. Fox Special

mjfox-500x756.jpg.jpeg

I’ve been waiting for this Michael J. Fox special, Adventures of an Incurable Optimist, since I saw his appearance on Oprah earlier this year. I’m always fascinated by issues of the brain (see my review of the upcoming The Alzheimer’s Project), and everything he’s going through is fascinating to me. Enough so that I immediately downloaded his most recent book, Always Looking Up, to my Kindle App on my iPhone (review to follow on that one.) He told a story on Oprah that while filming tonight’s special, he was in one place where they measure the the national level of joy and found himself not as sick. See? It’s fascinating!

1. Regis and Kelly. Broadcast from Miami Beach, guests include Eric Dane and Lil Kim and Derek Hough, voted off of DWTS on Tuesday night. It’s almost just as shocking two days later. Syndicated, check local listings.

2. The View. Guests include Michael J. Fox and Nancy Snyderman. 10:00 AM CT ABC.

3. Mask. Eric Stoltz and Cher star in this true story of a teenager that’s disfigured enough to make it alarming, and his biker mom. Watching how this kid perseveres is fascinating. 12:40 PM CT Encore Drama

4. Disturbia. Shia LaBeouf stars in this movie that is so scary I nearly climbed into the lap of the people I was sitting next to in the theater, and they were strangers. Even in the daytime it would be scary. 2:15 PM CT HBO Zone

5. Survivor: Tocantins – The Brazilian Highlands. Debbie is seeing the writing on the wall and jumps on the boat to get rid of Coach. Also, it’s the videos from home show. 7:00 PM CT CBS

Survivor – Twistin' the Knife

stephen.jpg.jpeg

Got nothin’ for ya.

Not that the above line means anything in particular, it’s just my favorite Jeff Probst line, even more than “I’ll tally the votes,” or any of the other number of things he says. It almost seems like Jeff really enjoys saying that to people too. Like he just likes to turn that knife just a little more. Not only are you not getting that reward, you’re not getting anything else either.

Jeff didn’t have to twist that knife any more for Coach, Debbie, and Sierra. They knew the score when Taj, Stephen, and JT were going on the reward, Erinn was going to Exile, and they were stuck behind. That was a mistake on Stephen’s part, though. He took his closest alliance and showed his cards. He should have left someone back at camp to keep Coach and Debbie at bay, and taken Sierra to keep her loyalties from swaying, or at least so that he didn’t have to doubt her loyalties. Had he done that, he wouldn’t have had the doubts over Sierra, and he’d still have her in their alliance, while knocking Coach down to only having himself.

That brings up Erinn’s vote. What was with her voting for Stephen? She knew no one else was voting for him … didn’t she? Did no one fill her in so she guessed? Or was there no way she was going to vote for Sierra, and she was pissed off at Stephen for voting her out, so showed him her displeasure? Was she twisting the knife on him? Again, he only has himself to thank for that mess.

What's Hot On TV Tonight – All New Ugly Betty!

0000050955_20080815110605.jpg.jpeg

Ugly Betty is back on the schedule tonight with an all new episode after being replaced by some new series in a trial run for a few weeks. We also get to watch Coach deal with the surprising blow to his ego after Tyson was voted out on Survivor, and I almost think I’d pay money for that one.

2. The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Ryan Reynolds and Emily Bear guest, as well as Joan and Melissa Rivers. Perhaps they’ll shed light on their Celebrity Apprentice appearances and whether Joan will be back next week or not. 3Syndicated, check local listings.

4. Armageddon. I love Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, and Liv Tyler in this, but mostly I love Steve Buscemi. He always plays the best nuts. 3:45 PM CT Encore West
