Top Chef: Seattle – Episode 6 – You Had Me At Lamb-Stuffed Squid

OTV – Johnnycake with Bacon, Cheddar, Chili Compound Butter and Sous Vide Egg – Marilyn found it a little sweet, but good.

Hipster – Bread Pudding with Ham, Raisins and Pecans – Marilyn said that leftover ham never tasted this good.

Lizzie – Bobotie with Ground Lamb, Egg Custard and Roasted Apricots – Padma asked about sharing the knife.

Papa Smurf – Banana Lumpia with Peanut Butter Mousse, Coconut and Pineapple – Padma said it was sophisticated.

Micah – Pineapple and Pork Tamale with Charred Tomato and Tomatillo Salsa – Marilyn found it interesting. Micah was worried that she had no idea it was a tamale.

Latex Salesman – Waffles with Celery Three Ways, Apple Puree, Chicken and Prosciutto – Padma asked if chicken and waffles was a Belgian tradition.

Brooke – Apple Crostata with Cheddar Cheese, Candied Pine Nuts & Apple Salad – Padma called it homey, and Broke doesn’t feel like it was a complement.

The Thumb – Smoked Salmon Tartare, Potato Latkes with Sour Cream and Chives – Marilyn thinks he did it very well.

Josie – Tamale with Habanero Masa, Mangos and Papaya – Marilyn felt it was a nice combo.

Monkey – Bondino of Parmesan-Reggiano, Figs, and Apricots in Port Wine and Truvia Caramel – Marilyn was all for having port wine.

Eliza – Hush Puppies two ways – Shrimp and Sweet Potato, Sausage and Corn – Marilyn said it was mild and sweet.

Kish – Who knows. We never saw hers.

On the Bottom – The Latex Salesman had too many diff things going on and Micah had a “dry taco.” Micah sighed at the taco-tamale problem.

On the Top – OTV made a common basic dessert appealing. The Thumb made his attractive and tasty. Brooke took the basics to another degree. Winner – Brooke. She is immune this week.

Elimination Challenge – Cater the Pratt/Faris affair. The winner earns themselves a new Prius, the loser earns a slot against CJ and The Wiz in Last Chance Kitchen. Faris likes wild salmon and Dungeness crab. They have German and Norwegian backgrounds. Pratt is a meat and potatoes guy and wants them to pack in the calories. They are adventurous, and Pratt will eat scary things. He hunts with his brother and will eat all parts of the animal – although Pratt is skeptical they will find Pacific Northwest squirrel in Whole Foods. These chefs? With those parameters? Slam dunk.

Kish has a passion for pasta, while Eliza went with elk to go for Pratt’s game tastes. Hipster has paper thin chops and once seared felt over cooked. Papa Smurf is going for rice porridge, while no word on Baby Bear’s take on it. OTV is pissed he messed up the pork dish last week – his restaurant is called the Divine Swine – and is putting a hard sear on his pork. Micah doesn’t want anyone’s crap in his station. Monkey gets bitten by a crab and is making Rick Moonen’s special clam chowder. He worked for him before and learned the best way to make the soup. Hipster’s pork chop keeps having issues. Eliza’s elk is chewy and tough, so she is cutting it super thin. Micah’s celery puree is not creamy enough, so he adds more cream.
