Interview With Magdalena Maria Rivas of America’s Next Top Model 3

by aurora

Magdalena was the first eliminated model from ANTM3, and missed out on the opportunity to move into the Waldorf Astoria with the others. She put her schooling and career on hold to pursue her dream, but with her smarts and determination she’ll do very well for herself no matter which career path she follows!

Hi Magdalena! Have you always wanted to be a model?

I’ve been modelling on and off since I was 18, but yes, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. My boyfriend and my mother convinced me to try out for the show – they’ve been very supportive of me. And I made it to the top 14, so I’m proud of that.

What was the toughest part of the try-outs for you?

The hardest thing for me was just being in front of the panel. It was nerve-wracking! It’s just overwhelming to be standing there in front of Tyra Banks and the two J’s, and you know they’re sizing you up. Tyra is so down to earth and very supportive of everyone though.

Were you surprised about any of the girls who made it to the final 14 with you?

Yes, I was. I don’t want to get into specifics or name names, but they’re looking for America’s Next Top Model. They’re looking for someone who can do high fashion, and some of the girls just don’t have the look or the height for it.

Have you gone back to school now, or are you pursuing modelling?

I’m in my final year of nursing school, so I’ll definitely finish that up. But I plan to go back to modelling when I’m finished. My schooling is very important to me.

Were you given any indication during the bikini shoot that things weren’t going well?

No. I received no feedback or criticism at all. I didn’t expect to be the first girl to go.

Who do you think has what it takes to win the title of America’s Next Top Model?

Norelle. She has the height and the body type, and her look is different. She has a lot of potential.

In your video on the website, you mentioned that you had the potential to cause drama in the house…

Oh, it’s so funny that they used that! It was completely taken out of context. I had said so many other things about myself, and they asked me if I could cause drama on the show. They used that answer as part of my profile, meanwhile the other girls all got to say stuff about themselves!

Okay, well that takes care of that question then! Is there anything else you’d like viewers to know about you that we might not have gotten from seeing you on the show?

I am outspoken and very outgoing, but I like to hang back and observe a situation first. There was so much cattiness going on – I mean, I’m 24, and I wasn’t about to get into all of that. I displaced myself from it.

I’m not a snob, but I was there for myself and to represent Latina women. There’s a big difference between good TV and good modelling.

Thanks for taking the time to speak with us today, Magdalena, and best of luck to you in the future!

Thank you!
