I’m not quite sure why, but we have a friend who just celebrated his birthday this weekend that utters the line, “It’s good to be the King,” quite frequently. With the premiere of The King on tonight, it seemed like a very fitting title. There is a lot of good TV on tonight, so I hope you don’t have a lot of early St. Patrick’s Day plans.

1. NBA Basketball: Mavericks at Lakers. Los Angeles is on a roll, having won the last five games against the Mavericks and having won both games played against the Mavericks this year. 2:30 PM CT ABC

2. The Color Purple. Steve Spielberg takes on Alice Walker’s novel, and includes an impressive lineup of stars, Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover, and Oprah Winfrey. 3:30 PM CT BET

3. The Goodbye Girl. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Neil Simon just can’t do wrong by me. Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason take on this story of an actor that movies in with a down-on-her-luck mom. Quinn Cummings was just oh-so-adorable and clever in this part. 5:00 PM CT Turner Classic Movies.

4. 60 Minutes. The Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke is interviewed and discusses the economic crisis, and chef Alice Waters is profiled. 6:00 PM CT CBS

5. Dateline NBC. Michael Phelps is interviewed, discussing his Olympic career, as well as that bad decision that led to one of the most famous pictures in the past few months. While on a trip to the border of Chad and Sudan, George Clooney discusses his cause to end the Darfur crisis. A father’s attempts to bring his son home from Brazil are shown as well. 6:00 PM CT NBC

6. America’s Funniest Home Videos. No description was available about this episode, but is each one really that different? 6:00 PM CT ABC

7. Hole In the Wall. It’ soccer moms vs. hip hop moms, and pretzel makers vs. tortilla makers. You’d think the pretzel makers would reign supreme here as they have to bend their bodies into pretzels to fit through those holes. 6:00 PM CT Fox

8. The Amazing Race 14. The remaining teams continue on in Siberia as one person from each team has to take on the Siberian weather in a run without their outer clothing. On team has a particularly hard time with a stick shift. There’s always one of them. 7:00 PM CT CBS

9. Kings. This series premiere has King Silas Benjamin facing rising tensions with a neighboring country. A young soldier inspires an entire national after he unknowingly rescues the king’s son. 7:00 PM CT NBC

10. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Although a family has maintained a charity that helps thousands of starving people, their own home remains unfinished for twelve years. Ty and his team work to fix that. 7:00 PM CT ABC

11. The Simpsons. Maggie gets lost under Homer’s car to nuns in a convent, and Marge temporarily goes blind in an episode that is supposed to emulate National Treasure, The Da Vinci Code, and Ratatouille. 7:00 PM CT Fox

12. King of the Hill. Peggy realizes she’s not cool, so makes friends with the coolest mom at Bobby’s cotillion classes. When she and Bobby are invited a coming-out party, they dress to impress and put on their best sophisticated act. 7:30 PM CT Fox

13. Cold Case. When he stops in a local convenience store, Jeffries is shot, along with the elderly store owner. Jeffries’ colleagues work to solve the crime, needing to keep their emotions in check. 8:00 PM CT CBS

14. Desperate Housewives. Susan gives a teacher the wrong impression, Gaby wants Carlos to hire Lynette, Bree doesn’t want Orson’s bad habit to embarrass her, and Edie digs deeply into Dave’s past. 8:00 PM CT ABC

15. Family Guy. Peter cashes in a found 1989 raffle ticket, with his prize being a round of golf with O.J. Simpson. Peter, not knowing of any of the ex-football player’s recent troubles doesn’t see anything wrong with it. 8:00 PM CT Fox

16. Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory. After the success of “Rob & Big,” ingenious skateboarder Dyrdek is ready to become the Willy Wonka of Skateboarding in. The Fantasy Factory is a 25,000 square foot industrial-complex-turned-funhouse designed to expand the reaches of Rob’s skateboard empire, known as Dyrdek Enterprises. 8:00 PM CT MTV

17. Rock of Love Bus With Bret Michaels. The remaining six contestants have their secrets exposed by their exes, while being grilled by Bret’s ex Ambre and Heather from Rock of Love. 8:00 PM CT VH1

18. American Dad. Steve reconnects with his troubled paternal grandfather who Stan despises, because he never taught him to ride a bike, among other things. Hayley needs to quickly find an internship to earn school credit, so Roger hires her as a bartender. 8:30 PM CT Fox

20. Celebrity Apprentice. The two teams need to sell selling dresses in a bare retail space that needs to be designed and decorated by them to emulate a bridal shop. A “roaring mouth” and “late-night binge” could derail everything. Who could that be? 9:00 PM CT NBC

21. Brothers & Sisters. Tommy is taken by Kevin and Justin on a much-needed mental-health vacation to get his head cleared by the legal problems, and Kitty takes her newborn to Nora’s to get to know Ryan 9:01 PM CT ABC
