American Idol, Feb. 17 – Drama Not Over, Beatles Next for Hopefuls

Stefano Langone, 21, of Kent, WA, sings Sir Duke; Jovany Barreto, 23, a ship builder from Harvey, LA, sings J-Lo’s husband Marc Anthony’s song You Sang to Me; and Jacee Badeaux, 15, of Lafayette, LA, sings The Time of My Life. J-Lo tells him it’s been her pleasure to listen to him as many times as they’ve heard him, Steven tells Jovany it was well-done, and Randy recognizes Stefano was having a good time.

The guy who replaced Jacee in the Guaps group, Scotty McCreery, 16, from Garner, NC, doesn’t have his favorite country tune on the list, so instead is singing the country tune I Hope You Dance, but he doesn’t know and can’t remember the lyrics. As much as he does country well, it would have been better to sing something non-country that he knew.

Someone we haven’t seen before, Tatynisa Wilson, 20, a waitress from Aurora, IL, struggles with the lyrics of the same song. She begs to start over and still struggles, and Randy winces along with one of her notes. Scotty thinks he deserves to get cut, and believes his deep voice is the only thing keeping him there. Tatynisa thinks she messed up everything. She knows J-Lo looked disappointed. He’s definitely wrong, but she’s mostly right.

The solo performances are done, and the contestants split into four rooms to be told they’re staying, or they’re going. Room one includes Ashley Sullivan, Brett Loewenstern, Haley Reinhart, Jacee Badeaux, Jacob Lusk, Caleb Hawley, Clint Jun Gamboa, Lauren Alaina, Chris Medina, James Durbin, Robbie Rosen, and Casey Abrams. The judges visit the room and Randy tells them this is the most talented group ever. J-Lo informs them all they have made it through to the next elimination.

Room two gets emotional hearing the celebrations in the room next to them. This room includes Brielle von Hugel and Corey Levoy. Room three holds Mark Guitterez and Chelsee Oaks. The judges hit room two next. Steven tells them they didn’t make it. Jennifer consoles them, and Randy tells them the three judges have all auditioned many times having doors shut in their faces. Room three shares the same fate.

Those in room four are in silence, not knowing what happened in rooms two and three. Steven tells them they feel their pan, and leaves it to J-Lo to tell everyone they’re moving on. This room includes Carson Higgins, Julie Zorilla, Jovany Barreto, Rachel Zevita, and Scotty McCreery.

There is one more challenge in front of them, something they haven’t had to do before. They will have to sing the Beatles with only twenty-four hours to prepare. Unlike in past years, they’re having the contestants sing one more time before the semi-finalists are announced. We’ll see these performances on Wednesday, then on Thursday, our final 20 will finally be announced. There are several favorites still in it, but they can’t all make it. And each night, we seem to find even more favorites. Who’s going to be among the heartbreaking cuts next week?
