Big Brother 12 – A Strategic Overview of Week Six

After the elimination of his girlfriend, Rachel, Brendon was motivated to avenge his lost love by winning HOH. He went on to nominate Ragan as the target and Lane as the pawn. However, Brendon’s plan was spoiled when Ragan won POV. A replacement nominee had to be named, and it was between Matt and Britney.

When Brendon opened Pandora’s Box, Rachel was allowed to reenter the house for the day while Brendon was forced to spend the time alone at a mansion in Malibu. Upon returning to the Big Brother house, Brendon discovered a message left by Rachel telling him to nominate Matt in Ragan’s place. Brendon followed Rachel’s wishes and put Matt on the block next to fellow Brigade member Lane, having no idea that Matt possessed the Diamond Power of Veto.

And on Thursday Matt used his Diamond Veto to both take himself off the block and put Kathy up as a replacement nominee. Next to the likable Lane, Kathy never had a chance as she was evicted in a 5-0 vote, making her the second member of the jury.

What was Kathy’s downfall? Did Matt do the right thing in putting her up? How much longer can the Brigade stay intact? And, as always, where do the players stand strategically?

Kathy was never going to win this game. She had zero alliances. The only reason she was still in the house was because of her poor performance in challenges. And, actually, if it hadn’t been for the Diamond Power of Veto twist, Kathy probably would have been carried much further for the same reason. However, no one was going to carry her to the final two.

He has definitely improved his position in the house with his run as HOH. He formed an alliance with Hayden and Enzo, but mostly because they didn’t want to be put up on the block. His only real hope is that the Brigade self-destructs, making it possible for him to be used as a swing vote. As it stands now, he is going to have to win competitions to stay in the house.

Britney needed to win that HOH this week. As the only remaining girl in the house, she is going to have to work hard to stay in the game. It is also very important for her to know who her friends are, and right now Enzo, Hayden, and Brendon are not her friends.

Enzo (aka Meow Meow)
Enzo is still in a great position. Ideally, he should let Hayden do most of the dirty work, so he can stay out of trouble. Enzo has done a great job of being friendly with each eliminated player. He definitely shouldn’t ruin it now. Enzo is a huge threat to win over the jury, but I don’t think anyone has realized it yet. All Enzo has to do is keep it that way.

Hayden and Enzo seem to have grown a lot closer these past couple of weeks. They are a strong alliance. The only thing they need to make it to the end is to start winning competitions. One way to do that is to eliminate the players who keep beating them in competitions.

Lane needs to realize that he’s not as tight with Hayden and Enzo as he once was. The time is coming where he should switch alliances if he wants to make it to the end. Joining forces with Britney, Matt, and Ragan could be his best move. He would then have a sub-alliance with both Britney and Matt.

I’m impressed with his game play this week. Given the information he had, Kathy was the perfect replacement nominee. This way he avoids betraying his other alliances in the house. At the same time, though, he is not in a great position because more people want him out than in. Also, because of the lie he made up about his wife needing the money for surgery, I doubt many players want to go up against him in the final two. He is going to have to work hard to make it to the end.

Ragan continues to play with his emotions. Even if he makes it the end, I don’t see how he can win a jury vote. At least he already won twenty thousand dollars for making a few videos and writing a brief note.

Question of the Week
How many people really believe that Kathy was throwing challenges? If she was throwing challenges, that was the most believable challenge throwing I’ve ever seen!

I’ll be back next week with some more strategic musings.
